Email - Canary Mail App Description

Modern email apps compromise on security or features. Canary does not. Some of your most important info is shared via email, which is why we built end-to-end encryption into our app. This ensures only you and the person you're communicating with can read what is sent, and nobody in between, not even your provider. All of this happens automatically: no need to turn on settings or set up special secret keys to secure your emails. Welcome to secure, effortless, email. **ENCRYPTION ON DEMAND** With Canary's one-click encryption, you can effortlessly enhance your email security. The email is encrypted on your device and decrypted on your recipient's device. It will be unreadable on your provider's web interface, or by anyone else on any other app! • Automatic: Automate the key exchange to focus on crunching emails, without worrying about security. • Manual: Advanced PGP users can manage their own keys and exchange encrypted emails with anyone. **FOCUS ON WHAT'S IMPORTANT** With natural language search, smart filters, algorithmic bulk cleaner, and intelligent typography enhancements, Canary helps you easily find and act on what's important, and get rid of what's not! • Focused Inbox:Canary learns which emails are important to you and highlights them for easy access. Intelligent typography enchancements ensure optimum readability. • Natural Language Search: Search for photos from dad, receipts this month, or unread newsletters. Canary understands what you're looking for and finds it first time, everytime. • Smart Filters: Quickly isolate unread emails, or emails with attachments. Check if you've missed replying via the unanswered filter. Gmail users can also access their Inbox tabs / categories. • Bulk Cleaner: Canary's adaptive algorithms learn which emails are likely to be unimportant. Tap on the magic wand and scroll to automatically find, select, and then delete unwanted emails. **POWERFUL FEATURES** Don't pay a monthly fee for features you want and need. With Canary, you always have full access! • Read Notifications: Get notified when your emails are read. • Snooze: Deal with emails at your convenience. • Email Templates: Avoid repetition. Save and re-use frequently sent emails. • One-Click Unsubscribe: No need to look for pesky unsubscribe links. **SEAMLESS INTEGRATIONS** Email plays a central role when it comes to files, events, and tasks. So we made sure Canary plays nice with your favorite apps! • Google Drive • Dropbox • Todoist • Things • iCal • Google Calendar • Giphy • Keybase & MIT **USE YOUR FAVORITE EMAIL PROVIDER** Get all of Canary's powerful features and cutting-edge encryption technology with your existing email account(s). • The worst best email app

Constant bugs. Support was responsive but not helpful. Has the opportunity of being a great mail client but too buggy for prime time. Other bugs exist w searching.

While I did pay for this app, I think I'm going to be deleting it. I have contact support several times, not once has anyone replied on my issues. The two main issues that I am facing are: 1. I get a push notification, I select it and one of two things happens, either the email is slow to load, it sits on a black screen then finally displays or the email never loads, just stays on the black screen no error, nothing. I go to the iOS Mail app and the email loads without issue. 2. I get a notification of an email, I don't click the notification, I open the email app, I click select the mailbox, the email isn't displayed. I refresh several times and the email never display. Again, I go to the iOS Mail app and the email loads is displayed in the list. NOTE: When this happens I notice there's a red X next to mailbox which leads me to believe it is not.connected, howecer, if that was the case, then how did I receive the notification. I have three mail accounts, one exchange for work, one iOS and one IMAP. I am experiencing this issue with all accounts, but I notice these issues happening more on IMAP account. This has been going on for months. I'm over it. I need an email app that works. I've been testing Outlook side by side and it is far more reliable.
  • Great vision, execution needs work

I bought into the security vision of Canary and the multiple email management features so I used canary iOS and Mac as a primary email software for a year. However, I ended up switching back to the gmail app when they introduced multiple inbox management and straight up on mac because: 1) writing an email on canary ends up saving dozens of drafts on gmail, so annoying 2) syncing new emails on Mac is just too slow and unpredictable, on iOS it works fine though. I’ll check back on how the app improves in a few months but for now, direct gmail is a much better choice for me.
  • Waste of money

Does not work as promissed. Contacted support, but after two emails that did not help solve my issue they simply stopped replying. Maybe the app works with their own servers, but i did not need/ test that. If you want to use it for pgp with other email server you will not get a working app!

Wasted money...lacks basic common email features
  • Doesn’t work with exchange server email accounts

These accounts need to configured to use IMAP to work with canary. Since I don’t have access those settings at my workplace, this program ends up being useless. Would have been nice to know before I paid for the app!
  • Make an alternate normal mail icon

    By BlueRocketSi
Loving the app so far, other than some odd bugs from time to time... My main issue is the icon in no way relates to email, please add an alternate icon (preferably dark) that looks like an email icon! Odd request maybe... But would be a game changer
  • Solid app but needs reply-to functionality.

This app does a lot right, if they would add standard reply-to functionality like every other email app has, it would be 5 stars all day.
  • Great app, too many bugs for the price

    By montesomething
I love this app! The UI is beautiful and the encryption works well. Sadly it is full of subtle bugs and issues that make the experience somewhat annoying. Somewhat more than expected in an app that costs 10 dollars, it almost feels like a beta app with the amount of random crashes and hang ups that occur. I hope it keeps improving though so I can give it five stars!!
  • Good but room for improvement

For the price Canary should have more polish — the Spark app has more polish and is free. Don’t get me wrong, I love the attempt at a dark mode which is currently unique among email apps, but feel some other design/UI/color choices should have been made in certain places for a more professional feel. The compose view should also be dark. The white email toolbar in dark mode on the iPad is a real eyesore. The hide on scroll navbar in the main email list is a poor design choice. I shouldn’t have to tap a button every single time for Face ID, it should default to it if enabled and only fall back to the PIN code if Face ID fails. Support for many standard iOS features is missing. Sharing support is pretty much non-existent. For example, if I share text or html from another app, other email apps like Spark, and heck, even Proton Mail, appear in the share sheet, but Canary is nowhere to be found. At the very least it should have support for importing PGP keys via the share sheet. No drag and drop support. No Apple Watch complications. I could go on. If it wants to consider itself best-in-class, more effort needs to be done in this area. The way custom PGP keys are handled could use improvement. You can’t set the pass phrase until you send an email. It should have the ability to set it from the key manager. Also if a pass phrase hasn’t been set and you receive an encrypted email to that account, you will just get a perpetual progress spinner rather than a pop up asking for the pass phrase. All of these things make it difficult to transition completely from Spark, but the encryption is the killer feature. Even that could be handled better. For instance, there should be a simpler way of attaching your public key to send to others like in Proton Mail.
