Pythonista 3 App Description

Pythonista is a complete scripting environment for Python, running directly on your iPad or iPhone. It includes support for both Python 3.6 and 2.7, so you can use all the language improvements in Python 3, while still having 2.7 available for backwards compatibility. In true Python fashion, batteries are included – from popular third-party modules like numpy, matplotlib, requests, and many more, to modules that are tailor-made for iOS. You can write scripts that access motion sensor data, your photo library, contacts, reminders, the iOS clipboard, and much more. You can also use Pythonista to build interactive multi-touch experiences, custom user interfaces, animations, and 2D games. Features: >>> Scriptable code editor with syntax highlighting and code completion >>> Extended keyboard, designed specifically for Python >>> Interactive prompt with code completion, command history, and support for showing images in the console output >>> Integrated visual debugger and object inspector >>> Integrated PEP 8 style checker with issues highlighted directly in the editor >>> Complete offline documentation with quick lookup directly from the editor >>> Various beautiful light and dark color themes, and a theme editor to make your own >>> UI editor for quick prototyping >>> Includes most of the Python standard library and additional modules for graphics, sound, and iOS system services (e.g. clipboard, contacts, reminders, twitter, UI...) >>> Matplotlib and NumPy for scientific visualizations >>> Lots of other popular third-party modules, e.g. requests, BeautifulSoup, Flask, bottle, SymPy, and more are included. >>> Lots of included examples to get started >>> Universal app for iPad and iPhone The name "Pythonista" is used with kind permission of the Python Software Foundation.

This is a really awesome app that allows you to program Python. I use it with my iPad Pro, with the keyboard case, and I find that it's even better to program in than on my laptop. Some programs run even faster on my iPad Pro than on my MacBook Pro! I love the help functions and the overall polish of the app.

Very good, however I can’t make turtle draw different colored lines, here’s the code that I used fillcolor("green") begin_fill() forward(100) end_fill() I would really appreciate if the developer would help me, I’m a beginner and need a lot of help, other than that, great app!

I modified the random music midi maker to play songs I like! That was then. After a week or two the midi music stopped playing. I removed and reloaded without success. It us a bug. My other midi app still works.
  • Good app with very outdated libraries

Beware that while this is a great app for coding python and playing with your iPad’s or iPhone’s sensor data the included python libraries are hopelessly outdated. This includes numpy version 1.8 (current is 1.16) and matplotlib version 1.4 (current is 3.0). Since there is no possibility for upgrading within the app, this poses some annoying limitations.
  • Just getting started but one glaring issue

When on an iPad Pro 11 with a keyboard folio and the console swiped out, when you have the text box focused in the console the bottom row of special characters covers the text input box! I can’t see what I’m typing! I assume its an issue with the app being unprepared for the bottom gesture functionality of the new iPads.

This app is amazing just started learning python and it does everything I wanted to do, I spent hours researching other apps and debating whether to get it or not cause I was skeptical bout wasting 10$ but it’s totally worth it. You can run code AND get images as plots all in on.
  • Good but needs pandas

This app would be 4 or 5 stars if pandas was built in. Would also be nice to have a way to add new libs to import.
  • Requires update

Love the app, and will continue to use it in the future. However, on the new iPad Pro, the coding autofill menu is not visible. It is blocked out by the tray of symbols, containing characters such as the ‘_’ and ‘/‘. On my phone, I get a small tray of recommendations which I can use to quickly complete commands. Still my favorite coding app of all time though, hope it’s updated soon!
