  • Takes over earphones

    Great app generally but if you have Bluetooth earphones it will high jack the song connection. I want to be informed - but not at the cost of having to confront the reality of my NYC subway commute by hearing it.
  • Updates continue to denigrate app

    I’ve never witnessed an app being ruined with such remarkably flagrant disregard for paying customers/subscribers. -Navigation is now entirely clumsy & inelegant. -The ability to adjust font sizes and users settings are buried. -The ability to make photos larger is inconsistent, unreliable and more often than not, no longer permitted. -The number of ads, foisted on paying subscribers and taking up huge screen size is obscene. -Search rarely works, never returns a result that presents current articles.
  • Need search symbol (magnifying glass) back on home page

    Generally speaking, I have found this app to be excellent. But the recent update did take one step backwards, hence only 4 stars. The search icon has disappeared from the homepage that appears when the app opens. I found it when I went to “Sections” which is a choice at the bottom of the home page. On the “Sections” page it is in the upper right corner. It should also be there on the home page.

  • This app freezes frequently

    This app freezes 1/3 of the time I use it, typically upon scrolling and when the screen seeks to load an ad.

    This app has never been great- mediocre interface at best - but for the past week it has refused to maintain my subscriber login information.
  • Unbelievably buggy

    I love the NYT, but this app has so many problems. In the last few weeks I’ve run into the following: -Taping play on a video opens it in the background and requires restarting the app to stop audio. -Switching the orientation causes the portrait to be zoomed -Swipe gestures no longer work (switching between sections/articles) Real bummer since the app is otherwise clean and pleasant to use.

    ...has me so mad. They removed the swipe left feature to go to next story. So you keep having to go back to home page to then scroll to the next story you want to read. If I want to do that and be difficult why not use CNN which is free? So much easier before. Plus I read more of every story that way. Like flipping through a real paper. If there’s a new way to flip the app hasn’t made it clear. I’ve complained multiple times, and all I heard back was this was the new feature. How taking away ease of use is a new feature I have no idea. Please bring me back my New York Times app that works like reading a paper.
  • App stalls constantly - I’m not getting what I pay for

    I love the coverage and content of the NYT. However, it’s become increasingly difficult to read via the app.I read mostly on my iPad; besides it taking 3-5 seconds to load, once it has, I’m unable to scroll the article to continue reading, nor select any of the options at bottom (Home, Top Stories, etc.). My device has plenty of memory and storage. I used to be able to double-click the Home button on my device, swipe away the page; re-open the app (isn’t having to do all this sad?) and the app seemingly would have been “unstuck” - at least until the next article. However, now even that doesn’t work. As I’m no longer able to read “the paper” it’s not fair nor feasible nor fair for me to pay $125 year - I’m not getting what I pay for.
  • New version navigation is dreadful

    The latest version changed the navigation in the app really terrible. There used to be multiple ways to get where you wanted to go. Now it rigid, required multiple taps and swipes. The content is second to none, though the ads are really too intrusive. Still I would have given the old version 5 stars. This version gets 3.
