  • Good program, terrible billing and customer care

I paid for the full membership in early April via Paypal. Then, after 15 days of using under the membership, I was told my free trial has ended. Ok a mistake can happen, so I contacted support via email. They didn’t get back to me. No reply whatsoever! As much as I liked the program, it is a shame Fluentu does not have a good system of billing and customer care. I am canceling the membership.
  • Good idea but too many bugs

I was using FluentU frequently, but over the course of 2 months it has been littered with bugs. At times, the app would just freeze and shut down in the middle of EVERY quiz. That seems to have since been fixed, but an even worse bug has been introduced. I am a paid member and now can’t access any of the paid content. On top of that, while trying to figure out what happened with my account, I have been charged $270 and am requesting a refund. Meanwhile, I still can’t access my content. I guess if they put as much effort into bug fixes as taking your money the app might work.

This stupid app charged me 264 dollars and I didn’t even purchase any subscriptions on it. Couldn’t give me a warning? I WANT MY MONEY BACK.
  • The method is awesome

The app still doesn't have all the features the website has, but it's the best method I've used so far out of the literally dozens of Japanese learning methods out there.
  • Poor audio quality

While the lessons are superb it’s ruined by the lifeless computer generated Spanish speaking. It’s horrible! Not only does it rob the learner from experiencing true vocalization, it’s very hard to understand. What a shame when so much else about this app is really good.
  • Useful, but not for Latin American Spanish

I wanted to like it, but couldnt get past the fact that the Spanish teaches the vosotros form, which is used in Spain. I am not interested in using that form because the ustedes form is what is used in Mexico and by Mexicans in the U.S. I would gladly pay $30 a month for the content if they seperated Castilian and Latin American Spanish.
  • Sloppy

Pause button doesn’t keep the video paused for more than a few seconds. all the beginner material for most of the languages is several minute long videos where maybe 10 words are spoken the whole time but the advanced material is good. The flashcards feature is useless. Way too expensive
  • Could be good, but bugs kill it for me

Despite some rough edges, this could be an amazing app for learning. The Japanese (what I’m learning) is often mispronounced, but I could work with that. However, periodic vocabulary quizzes never work for me. When I want to review, it says “Loading Game Plan” and hangs indefinitely. As such, the list of vocab I need to review just grows indefinitely. Reviewing is so important, so it’s such a bummer that this doesn’t work. Otherwise, subscribing would be a no brainer. I hope this gets fixed soon.
  • Unique & Incredibly Effective

Given the monthly price tag, I was planning on canceling when I got to the end of my free trial. However I canceled other lifestyle memberships just so I could keep FluentU. Just 2 days into using the app, I found myself singing in French to my dog, customizing the words to describe him LOL. And I found myself very intuitively learning French grammar, way more than when I sat down and tried to absorb a French grammar workbook. I love the variety of videos in the “browse” menu. I haven’t even tried the actual courses yet because I find myself learning so organically just by watching the videos—ranging from silly little acted out ditties, to movie trailers, to animated cartoons, etc—and then taking the ensuing quizzes. The quizzes cross-examine you in so many different ways you learn the materials forward, backward, and sideways—by speaking it into the microphone and checking your pronunciation, listening and translating to English, reading and translating to French, multiple choice, fill in the blank, and so on. I couldn’t recommend it enough. Yes it’s pricy. But out of all my French training materials, I’ve noticed the biggest changes in my learning using this app.
  • So far so good.

I've been using this app to learn Mandarin for about a week and so far it has worked well.
