  • Best!

Overcast is the best podcast app. Much more customizable than your stock podcast app - get it. Edit: Please look into multi-function controls in some way. I’m a podcast freak and I’d love to be able to all at once delete the massive amount of played podcasts that I no longer need.
  • Best App for Podcasts Listening @ iPhone

The details and particularly the nitpicky details are amazing. It's also the only app that let me access all of the podcasters associated-posts/notes’ links and notes. There are few themes, fonts and few nice customizing features. Try it and you'll never regret it. Not compared to the native Podcasts app at all, way better than it.

Overcast is an extremely capable podcast app. I highly recommend it to all podcast junkies. Thanks so much for fixing the Apple CarPlay function. This has greatly improved my life.

Great podcast app. But sometimes the download gets stuck at %100.

I don’t know what they put in the latest update, but it crashes constantly now
  • CarPlay updates!

The visual updates for CarPlay are great. More cover art. More visual cues on progress. Even (limited) ability to change the playback speed. Lots to love in this update.
  • Just Perfect- thank you

Overcast is elegant and easy. Everything you ever wanted in a podcast player, no fuss, no muss. I would say it’s totally perfect except for the fact that it’s constantly improving in tiny ways. That is to say it *is* perfect to me, and kudos to the developer for finding ways to unobtrusively improve an application that is seemingly a totally finished, delicious tray of brownies. The features of the free version are too many to list, but I’ll state some favs here. The most remarkable are Overcast’s two custom, optional audio settings. “Voice Boost” is some bit of magic that makes voices louder and clearer, probably an EQ boost in that hertz range. “Smart Speed” shortens silences, but doesn’t otherwise affect the speed of the playback- so the sound is totally natural. It makes most every show about 20% funnier, fo realz. The most used and useful for me are the show specific playback settings. For example; I can have 1.5 speed for one show with Voice Boost on, standard speed for a different podcast, but with Smart Speed on, and my choice of standard settings to apply to the rest of the pods. Each show has a page of settings where you can toggle these options on and off. I use Voice Boost and Smart Speed on basically every show, with small exceptions for some audio-process heavy shows that don’t always play nice (read: some NPR shows with ultra-high compression). “Nitpicky details”- a more granular settings screen to adjust things like haptic response, 3D Touch, and the ability to change what your headphone or CarPlay buttons do. I prefer to have my seek forward set at 30 seconds, and my seek back at 15, so I can get through ads and station identifiers quickly, but not miss too much when I blow past the beginning of the next chapter. Overcast also allows you to use it entirely anonymously, no login required, and does not sell or share your personal info in any way, except to provide anonymous download and listening information back to the shows themselves. The ads it serves are small banners visible only in the “Now Playing” view, and seem to be targeted based off of the show you are listening to, but are otherwise not tracking you. This is major to me. And some more, quickly; -Show notes! HTML friendly show notes, and a mini browser to open links. A lot of shows have great detail hidden here, with chapter descriptions, etc. -Patreon and other payment links are also provided to podcasters to add- payments processed on their side, (and other podcaster friendly tools, from what I understand). -Plus the ability to add custom URLs for Patreon or other subscriptions. All of my various private feeds work seamlessly. -Playlists are cool! -Starring favorite episodes is nice, and browsing your Twitter pals’ favs is really helpful, too! -A gorgeous dark mode, handy for those of us that listen to podcasts to sleep. -It’s worth mentioning that the app never pesters you to upgrade or rate it, either, which is actually a major reason I decided to write this review. Programs that work the way you want them to, with no issues are so rare- try and think of a few! Overcast is one of those unicorns. I think about how much I love it just about every time I use it. That said, I’m inspired to finally put my money where my mouth is and upgrade to a premium plan. Not because I require anything from the premium features, but because I’ve already received so much. Thanks. ❤️
