Forest - Stay focused App Description

If you want to temporarily put down your phone and focus on what’s more important in real life, you can plant a seed in Forest. As time goes by, this seed will gradually grow into a tree. However, if you cannot resist the temptation of using your phone and leave the app, your tree will wither. The sense of achievement and responsibility will encourage you to stay away from your phone, and will help you make better use of your time. Stop getting distracted by your phone, make you self-motivated and get more things done. Stay focused. Be present! STAY FOCUSED: • Function based on the Pomodoro technique (a.k.a. tomato timer, pomodoro timer) • Plant lovely trees and stay focused on what’s more important in real life. • Turn your focused moments into a lush forest. • Notability compatability

    By jenjen13130
Although I love this app, I mainly take notes on my iPad Pro in Notability. I really wish the developers would somehow make it compatible with Notability because when I look at any of my notes on Notability, it kills my tree in forest. Therefore, this app has pretty much been a dud for me.
  • Great app but I have an idea

This app is really great! Ever since I downloaded it I really enjoyed it and it proves to be very effective in keeping me off my phone. But I think it would be a cool idea if you could code of the trees or something so that you could have a different tree for a different use of your time, not just changing the species. That way you could look at how much is time you spent studying or how much time you spent outside or how much time you spent with your family so that it would be easier to differentiate that rather than the entire thing being about studying. But besides that I really love this app it’s a great app to download!

  • Effective focus app

Far better than you typical Pomodoro style app. Having the consequences of “killing” a tree is more potent than just cancelling a study timer. You’re motivated to rack up more focus time, and thus coins, to buy more types of trees to grow! Letting you focus with and compete against friends is a smart feature too. Have played with loads of productivity apps and this is simple, charming, and extremely effective. One idea—have a “hardcore” mode where you put money down on a focus timer. If you complete the time, you get your money back. If not, it goes to the tree-planting charity in the app. As a reward for completing the time successfully, you get 1.5x or 2x the number of coins as your normal focus session!

This app is great. What would be really awesome too is if it could have a feature that allows users to track what they spend their time on —it would be a great thing for freelance billing and for getting an overview in general of how much time certain tasks are costing people. For instance, it would be so useful if I could set the timer for say, 25 minutes, and before hitting “Plant,” if I also had an option to name that 25-minute planting session “Storyboard illustration project 01,” or something. And then also to be able to save these task names on a list if such a storyboarding project is going to take me numerous planting sessions, so that I can just select it from a list instead of typing it ever time. With such a feature, I’d be able to look back and see how much time I tracked —good to know for my own productivity, and also to be able to track my work hours all in the same app. Either way, the app is amazing and I’ve already been able to have a real tree planted :)
  • Awesome idea

    Awesome app
  • As Effective as You Are Honest With It

Forest has been a good tool for preserving both my productivity and phone battery. The pie chart it provides (after you tag each session with a category) also helps break down where your time on Forest is going. As a more competitive person, having a ranking system between my friends and I is helpful. Having more trees and bushes is something I enjoy looking forward to; the last update was a fun experience. While I understand the idea of an increasing 100 coin cost with each tree bought, I found myself taking a mental L after prices started going beyond 1000. Otherwise animated trees. That’d be amazing, and I wouldn’t mind earning a ton for coins for those. Something that might be fun to see in the future are personal challenges. I enjoy the achievements and their rewards offered by the app (i.e. X consecutive days rewards and X many days’ worth of focus time for coins), and it would be nice to see more of them. Reward variety in the form of exclusive trees/bushes or planting actual trees is also something that’d be cool to have. TL;DR: effective app. More trees (animated trees? ✨) and bushes to purchase/earn and more achievements with rewards would be cool.
  • Simple and effective.

I love the simple design of this app. It’s easy to use and quite enjoyable as well. I especially enjoy the ambient sounds provided by the app. I use these sounds regularly to help filter out background noise and help me concentrate on my work. Excellent job!

This app is a wonderful way to break through habitual phone “addiction”. I rarely need to use my phone, and if I’m achieving something by not using it, I’ll be less likely to pick it up unnecessarily. Definitely worth the price of admission!
