Zest Recipe Manager App Reviews

  • Another forgotten app

Disappointed they stopped doing updates to the app
  • Very frustrating app!

After I imported several recipes in Zest, it suddenly stopped working. It worked well at first, but now you have to manually cut & paste each part of a recipe (ie ingredients, directions, title & photo) and even doing that, it doesn’t work consistently. I wish the developers would fix the problems.
  • Lost access to their Cloud, no response from support

After a year of using this app I decided to get their paid version with cloud backup. After getting a new phone I have no access and all of my recipes are lost. I did password reset but my account is not being recognized
  • No iCloud back up😩

    By Mcwt
Love the app!!! BUT--- While free is great, I would have rather paid for it to have iCloud storage. Sadly, I cannot keep it without the iCloud backup because I do not want to pay for additional cloud storage. Since apple products offer iCloud, seems to me, you should charge for your cloud service if the user does not have a backup option. For this reason... I gave 3 stars and will delete the app. 😭😭😭 "Can I sync my recipes using my iCloud account? No. We chose not to use iCloud for recipe storage as it is an Apple-only service. As we plan to support non-Apple devices in future, iCloud did not fit our requirements."
  • Love the import from web feature

Great app, so easy to import a recipe! Please add an ability to store a recipe as a picture. Uploading a photo crops it plus I can't enlarge it so there is no way for me to read what's on that recipe. Also, as others said, please add backup, import and export ability. Otherwise love it!
  • Love it but no backup

    By Kptrealtor
I have grown to love this app for all my newer recipes. However, I cannot back it up to the cloud. Zest wants you to buy their storage. I just bought a new iPad and only half of my recipes came over. I am trying to figure out how to get the rest. Maybe I will find a new app I can back up.
  • Lost everything

I loved it until I had to wipe my iPad. Lost every recipe! I had no idea this could happen. Most apps keep your progress. I also had no idea about a zest cloud but even so I would not pay for it. Hoping to find another app just as good that I don't have to worry about. I can't even begin to replace the recipes I lost. Contacted customer service with no response.
  • Best recipe manager!

I've tried a lot of recipe manager apps, and this is the best by far. Don't change a thing!
  • Brilliant and Easy to Use!

I have never written a review for an app before, but I love and use Zest so much, that I feel compelled to. For a recipe keeper, this app has been invaluable. I hate having napkins and index cards and computer printouts of recipes stashed in cabinets and drawers, and ultimately you can never find the one you're looking for... This eliminates that problem. The interface is streamlined and user-friendly. You can easily enter a recipe manually, but it is very easy to upload recipes from websites--the app can detect which pages are open in your browser and will automatically direct to those--or you can search websites from within the app. The app is compatible with many popular recipe sites and will automatically fill all recipe fields for you! I especially like that you can add your own photos to keep with each recipe and can choose which photo will be displayed. It is easy to tag recipes to narrow down your search for a specific recipe or to browse through a specified category, and you can also create your own tags. I also really like that you can add your own notes to each recipe--I use this feature if I want to note variations or changes for future reference. And when friends or family occasionally compliment a meal I've prepared, it's super easy to share recipes via text or email, or pretty much any other social media platform. I am not a chef, or a gourmet foodie--just a busy mom who cooks pretty much every meal at home and loves that Zest has streamlined some of that process for me. It is easily my most-used app!
  • Best I've found...

    By kizziesings
Wow, functionally this is literally the best recipe manager I've found. Love the easy ability to enter in recipe details. The Cook feature is extremely awesome. And cool Timer feature also. I think it could look better visually. The font is old and cheap looking. Don't care for the color scheme. But this is all purely a cosmetic opinion. The UI is great. (*in orientation mode) I LOVE being able to add a photo of the dish, but it takes up more space on the screen than it honestly needs to. It'd be better if the screen space was more dedicated to the recipe info. But it's not a big deal to scroll a bit. I love having the image, and in portrait mode the layout looks great. The biggest issue I have is that there isn't an add button on the main screen. You have to tap the menu bar and tap 'Add Manually' to enter your recipe. A simple plus sign button would be more intuitive. But...that's the biggest issue, so the developers are doing pretty good. It'd also be great to have a drag and drop capability after adding a recipe in the event I need to reorganize the order of the ingredients or the instructions. So, yea, best app I've found for this. *Note: My previous reviews claimed the app didn't have certain features that it did and it was absolute oversight on my part. Apologies! Great app.
