  • Maps are good, but UI is confusing and unnecessarily difficult to use

The topo maps are good, especially the high res maps. However, the GUI of this app needs some cleanup. Everything feels about twice as complicated as it needs to be. During a hike, just accessing the distance traveled and elevation can sometimes be confusing because the view heirarchy is confusing. As another reviewer said, it’s difficult to figure iut if you’re actually using your purchased apps sometimes as well. There are tons of map choices for purchase, but in the end this mind of makes things more complicated for little gain. Now one if my biggest gripes. Zooming in and out is awful! Pinching my fingers only seems to zoom the map like 10% of the time! I have to try over and over again just to zoom in or out, and it’s irritating and exhausting. Why? This app has so much potential, and yet the GUI is just too confusing and zooming is unnecessarily obnoxious.
  • The worst way to download maps!

The only thing they care about is that you pay the premium. You’re almost forced to do it, otherwise, you’ll to download tiny squares off the map. I was trying to download Yellowstone national park’s map, and I cant even tell if I’m downloading all of the needed parts. You want an easier way? You have to pay to ZOOM OUT! You’re much better off with google maps. For the dev team, you could have tried to sell different patterns or maybe add ads on the app. Restricting a main basic function of a map app is definitely the worst way to make money off of people.

I’ve been using this app for about a year now. I used it last fall on a hunting trip. Marked hunting locations, trails, sign, and all sorts of things. I love the fact that you can pick what kind of map you want to view it on, there are so many options! I also ride horse a lot, and a lot of the time there is no reception in the mountains. So the fact that you can download the maps to your phone ahead of time is great!! I am just using the free version but it still works awesome!
  • Maps are uselessly out of date

I just wasted thirty bucks on a Pro subscription. The ancient maps I downloaded for the Bozeman Montana area have not been updated for decades. None of the current trails are shown. Utterly useless. I am going to request that Apple cancels this fraudulent sale. Shame on you people.
  • Spend some time with it before you head out

I downloaded this for a trip to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. I went ahead and paid for the detailed maps of those parks as separate purchases. Once I got to the area, I couldn’t tell if I was using those maps. I finally realized that I wasn’t. I kept trying to download them, but iffy WiFi and cell signal in the park made it fail. I finally sent a note to support and got a reply from the founder of this app. I really can’t fault his follow up. He talked me through the maps icon showing the map you are using having a green border. The downloads have to continue until they say Open. At home this is no big deal, but on low bandwidth that download can sit in full green for a while before showing Open. I kept closing it too soon. Anyway, resolution is very good on those purchased maps and if you download them ahead of time, it is easy to use. With family sharing, others in the family can also download them. A friend that came with us got the subscription. This meant she had to download each map section. Again, better to do that before you leave stable WiFi. Only after I got home did I try my iPad. Looks great and we could have used that for planning the next days hikes over dinner. Without GPS, wifi only iPad won’t show location or path. But it is a nice big, high quality map for planning. So the interface could be easier, but it works as advertised and the founder Mr. Johnson has my thanks for reaching out to help, personally.
  • No need for any other maps!

First I'd live to say that the developer is quick to respond to ANY questions. Stephen personally responds with help. The only issue I've ever had was with not having good map coverage in national parks but now with trails illustrated that problem is resolved.
  • Interesting

What's not to like at looking at places you have been and seeing what the elevation is and what use to be there.

Last year I bought some forested land and I use this app literally everyday to mark my tracks to keep track of where I’ve been, track animals, mark fruit trees, mast trees, interesting landmarks, wildlife habitat, deer trails, discover new logging roads, approximate national forest and park boundaries. I use it to keep track of my trail cams, tree stand sites, food plots, etc. I love that you can overlay the satellite images with the Topo maps and I love that you can download the maps and it doesn’t require cell service. Your phone GPS works off satellite (not cell towers) and as long as you have a Battery pack to recharge your phone while you’re out you should be good in the back country. I couldn’t live the same way without it. Only two things that I can think of that would make this better is to 1.) sync it to overlay local GIS info so you can see private land boundaries and owner info, but this is public information and you can still get it for free on the web. And 2.) sync it with local weather and wind forecasts so you can see which way your scent is forecasted to be blowing at certain times the next day or two depending on a certain location so you can plan your hunt. It’s just a guess but at least it’s an informed guess. Lol. Bravo though, this app is irreplaceable to me.

Very nice app for being free. Wish the maps had a little better detail and in my area some of the trails are not updated or the original trails are off a little bit but I have been tracking all the trails myself and manually adding every trail in my area on my phone. I love the app I wish I knew if there was a way to submit this map from my phone to topo maps to get all the trails I have mapped printed out on a copy like 4’x5’ to hang on my way in my garage or at Camp. I recommended this to a few people and they also like the app
  • The best. Period.

If exploring the backcountry is what you love, this is the app you need. I've tried dozens of others and this is by far the best I've encountered. It's obviously designed for use offline (like ANY hiking app should be, but so few are...). It's easy on your battery, and it's been awesome to see the consistent improvement in the app over the past few years. It has no social media component. Thank GOD. Hiker, hunter, cyclist, firefighter, biologist, whatever you are, you need this app.
