Used this app on the CDT in 2017. I fired it up at least twenty times a day since the trail was mostly unmarked. Can’t imagine hiking without it!

  • Indispensable Hiking App

Of all the trail map apps out there this one is by far the best for the trails it supports. Yes I can navigate with a compass and paper map, but not nearly as fast or easily as with this app. The long distance hiking support info (waypoints, resupply, water, etc.) is extremely useful. User inputs on the condition of water sources, Trail/Shelters, etc is great to have on the trail. I use the ability to plan routes and assess how difficult (elevation, terrain) a section will be all the time. The GPS w/o a cell signal is very nice allowing a quick check on how far to my next waypoint. I also discovered the developers are very active in updating and maintaining the app so data stays as current as it possibly can and bugs get fixed quickly. A must have if you hike these trails.

I haven’t been able to use this app at all since the major update combining all apps into one. I had purchased a guide for a section of the AT, and found the app invaluable. There have been several supposed bug fixes since the major update, but the app remains completely unusable on my iPhone 6 with iOS 11. I really hope this app gets back to functioning before my next section hike.

Used the Guthook app while hiking the AT in 2017 and was extremely satisfied with it. Everything in one easy to use accessible package, worked well on my iPhone. The people at Guthook continued to update and improve on the app as I used it. Bugs were addressed and fixed quickly, waypoints, resupply, water sources were at the location the app said they would be. Would recommend, and have recommended this app to anyone thinking about hiking or section hiking the AT. My satisfaction and trust in the people at Guthook has me returning for an app to take on the Arizona Trail and I hope an app for the PNT is released very soon. NNoHurry
  • Not Just for Thruhikers

I love this app and use it every time I'm on the AT for a short section hike or even just for the day. I've also helped out about a dozen thruhikers this past season with the app. (AWOL's guide is really good, but only gets updated yearly. This app is continually updated by user input.) Most thrus that saw it in person went onto purchase it once they saw how great it is. I've run into an occasional issue, but Ryan (Guthook) is super in that he gets back to you right away and is very fast to correct issues. Great guy, great app - we all win.

I really like the app. I only had one section loaded but after the update I couldn't remember my password and I get a no email listed message when I try to reset my password. Customer service contacted me and I was back to normal in no time.

I hiked 1,000 miles of the AT earlier this year and got Guthook about halfway through. The comments are what really make the app so useful. Commenters will tell you where common water stashes are, the recent state of springs, and small shops near road crossings that aren't listed anywhere else. There were a few times when water was hard to come by and having a heads up that the next 3 listed water sources were dry really helped me to know when I needed to carry extra water or when I could expect to fill up at camp. Great tool.
