  • Good service, but problems with mobile app

I use Rocket through my local library. I signed up and have found the courses pretty interesting. It's much more focused on real speech/listening than DuoLingo, which gave me a good start in reading French but pretty poor listening/speaking skills. I can't figure out where to report bugs but I'm having some pretty frustrating issues with the microphone. It gets into a bad state where it claims it can't hear anything, and all speaking lessons stop working. Force closing and restarting can sometimes work to wake it back up. But I can't even get through the quizzes at the end of the first lesson without hitting this. I don't have the same issue on the website, so I hope they fix this soon.
  • Not mobile friendly

Love the content, but the fact that i can’t download lessons and have to use WiFi is frustrating. I’d like to be able to download a lesson when I’m at home and use it when I’m commuting but don’t have WiFi, and I can’t.
  • Bug - Hear it, Say It

Whether I’m using the desktop version, mobile app, headphone or no headphones, I am plagued with a “Sorry, I couldn’t hear anything. Please try again message”. When I click the microphone to attempt again, the microphone flashes to the stop icon the immediately back to the microphone with the above message. I am sometimes able to get through one or 2 hear it say it phrases before this loop starts at which point I must completely close the app/ browser and restart. This makes for Incredibly slow progress which is NOT the feeling you want to feel when attempting to learn a language. I’m not giving this a negative review for a do enjoy the app and DO see the benefit of the way it’s laid out, I’m merely trying to report a bug/ defect that I am experiencing.
  • So far so good

Rocket Languages is an all around solid software for language learning. I’m thankful that you revamped the app. It’s more responsive and voice recognition is actually working. I ask that you please implement offline mode.
  • Please fix this!!

I love this app!! It’s really good for learning languages and I feel like I’ve already learned so much in the short time I’ve had it! However, with the “hear it say it” bits, it’ll work once or twice when I speak into and it recognizes my voice, but after a couple times, when I attempt to use it again, it’ll say “sorry I couldn’t hear anything!” And every time I try to record myself it instantly gives me the same message. Could you try to fix this please?? Thank you very much! (I’m learning French, I’m not sure if it’s specific to that one or not)

The most important aspect of a language program is whether or not it guides you towards learning a language. In perhaps 4-5 weeks of use, I feel Rocket Languages is accomplishing that goal. I like the lesson variety. They typically begin with 20ish minute audio exchanges, followed by lessons involving listen and repeat using speech recognition, listen and write, read and speak, etc. Combining hearing, seeing, speaking, and writing at least for me help to reinforce the learning process. By far the worst aspect of the app is the plethora of bugs. As mentioned in at least one other review, the speech recognition software often has difficulty understanding you and the problem worsens the longer you use the app for a given sitting. Often it reaches a point where the moment you press the microphone to speak you receive an immediate disclaimer that the app is sorry but it didn’t understand you, failing to provide any time whatsoever to actually attempt to speak. Deleting and reloading the app clears things up for a bit, but the problem always returns. It’s also not uncommon to see other bugs related to missing words, sentences, or translations as you work through a given lesson. I’m making progress leaning Spanish, but the app issues certainly have hindered my progress to a degree, and that’s disappointing.

I would give it five stars if I could download the lesson audio and play offline.
  • Great Japanese Course

This is a great app and it is very useful. My one complaint would be that with the new update, during the “Write It” portion of the testing, it will not let me us ten ten in the Japanese course. For example, if it wants me to spell out “arigatou”, it would normally be written ありがとう, but the button will not allow me to put the little mark, making か turn into が, therefore failing the writing portion. If this could be fixed, that would be great!
  • Lousy app

I was told this would be updated in February due to major bugs. Not so. Why don’t you fix this app. Many people have iPhones.
  • So far not so good

Two complaints. Using on an iPhone 7 Plus when I have a Bluetooth headset on and try and use the vocabulary feature where I speak the words and record it to listen back, your app disconnects from my headset, causing me to shut the app down and reopen loosing all work during that session. Second complaint is during a lesson your moderator says now it’s your turn, and then Maria talks. You really should try using your own course as a student and then you will find these irritating items
