Road to Hana Maui GyPSy Guide App Description

GyPSy Guide’s narrated driving tour for the Road to Hana, Maui is an excellent way to enjoy all the benefits of a guided tour while you explore at your own pace. There are 140+ audio points that play automatically along the scenic drive, featuring the best things to see and do, stories, tips and driving directions. Professional tour guides share advice on how to prioritize your time at recommended “not to be missed” viewpoints, suggested side-trips and places of interest. Tours work offline, using free GPS signal and location services, so no data roaming, network, or wifi is required while touring. It’s Just Like Having a Tour Guide in Your Car™ WHAT TO EXPECT: The Road to Hana is one of the world’s most scenic drives and a popular sightseeing activity to see Maui’s spectacular waterfalls, black sand beaches, bamboo forests, lava rock formations and amazing ocean views as you wind your way through 620 curves and 59 bridges. If you prefer travelling independently, at your own pace, GyPSy Guide provides the best Road to Hana tour experience, along with the freedom to choose what you enjoy; squishing the black sand between your toes at Wai’anapanapa, hiking the Pipiwai Bamboo Trail, or maybe time to enjoy an extra slice of banana bread. You can’t help but cheer on the world class windsurfers at Ho’okipa. And you won’t need to worry about photoshopping the Rainbow Eucalyptus at the Ke’anae Arboretum or the stunning contrast between blue water and black lava rock at Ke’anae Peninsular. Take a moment to cool off with a quick swim at the pristine Hamoa Beach and see where Haleakala National Park descends from the summit to the sea and the “Seven Sacred Pools” of Oheo at the end of the drive. With such a long day of exploring (expect 8-12 hours), it’s important to know the 5 “not to be missed” stops, and the many more suggestions if you have time. Part of the secret to enjoying the journey is knowing how not to waste your time, and we have tips for that as well. On the return drive from Hana, we’ll point out the not to be missed stops again as well as tell you stories about Hawaii’s fascinating history and rich culture. Please note Highway #31 ‘backside route’ is not recommended for driving. Rental car insurance void. Road can be closed for repairs, mudslides and flash floods. WHAT YOU’LL SEE: Some of the highlights along the route include; • Ho’okipa Beach Park • Paia • Ke’anae Peninsular • Wai’anapanapa Park, Black Sand Beach • Hana • Hamoa Beach • Wailua Falls • Twin Falls • Upper Waikanai Falls (3 Bears) • Pools of O’heo (Seven Sacred Pools) • Pipiwai Bamboo Trail BATTERY USAGE: ++ Continued use of GPS/Location Services in the background increases battery usage. We strongly recommend taking a cigarette style (DC outlet) car charger. Avoid using a direct connection to the USB port of a rental vehicle. IPADS: ** iPad models must include a GPS chip. Please note that Apple only install these on the iPad Wifi + Cellular models. Wifi only iPad models have limited location service capabilities and are unable to play commentary automatically. DOWNLOADING: The apps are larger in size in order to work offline. You must be on wifi to download as the store may block the download over cellular networks. ABOUT US: GyPSy Guide™ produce award winning narrated audio tours along scenic drives and road trips around the world. Engrossing narrator with great supplemental material. One star off for some missed cues when the app turned off for greater than 7 minutes. Definitely recommend to fellow Hana sojourners.

It’s like having your own personal tour in your car! There was another app recommended, but I’m SOOO glad I did my homework and bought this one instead!!! We loved the narrator’s voice and his tips on our way to Hana. The only negative was I couldn’t tap on the yellow or orange icons if I wanted to hear something that was said again. The next day we went to Pa’ia and had the gelato and fish and chips the tour guide on the app recommend and it was delicious! :0P

This app guided tour was simply amazing!!! I already knew the top spots I wanted to visit, but using this app made it much more interesting. I totally learned more about the history of Hawaii than I ever expected and even stopped by several spots that I didn’t even know I wanted to see. It was so worth it!!! I will most definitely be using this self guided app for future tours!!! Thank you!

I looked for free apps to help guide me on the Road to Hana. A Maps brochure suggested this one. Even though I hate paying for apps I paid for this one. It was WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! Trust me on this. All you do is connect the app to your car speakers and drive. The app does the rest. On the way to Hana you are told places you “must see” and others you can avoid if you are short on time. On the way back, you get a history lesson of these amazing islands and how Hawai’i became a part of the United States. This app is a BARGAIN and indispensable on your trip to and from Hana. It even suggests stores and markets along the way if you get hungry. Definitely a must have!

Two families in two vehicles with teenagers used this as our tour guide. We LOVED it, or “him,” as it felt like he spent the day with us. After the second stop, the kids started to fondly refer to our guide as “Uncle Jim”, because he felt like our favorite uncle & sounded like Jim Gaffigan. We made the must have 5 stops as well as a few others. We never bored of his voice and the kids looked forward to the next chapter in the history lesson on the way back. I can’t believe we got this first class experience for $6.99!
  • Great Tour!

We loved our guide - we called him Dad - some solid Dad jokes, great insight on places to stop for sighting seeing/food, and some awesome background on the islands. 10/10 recommend for anyone looking to drive the Road to Hana.
  • Great app!

Our three teenagers were griping about having to listen to the app before we started, but by the end they had their ears pealed listening for what he was going to say next! It was great info! The only thing we wished was that he continued his tour around the south side of the island since we returned that way.
  • Awesome experience

So this is second time we did the road to Hana, the first we did it back in 2006 using a map and literature. This time using the app, it was great, the app kept us informed well in advance of what is coming up and where to park, or what to skip, or what to focus attention too. Definitely worth the cost of the app.
