Fixed. I do really appreciate this app and all that it offers. So for it’s the best paid audiobook/ebook app I’ve come across! Thanks for all that you do and keep up the good work!
  • By far the best book APP

I am blown away at how awesome this service is week after week! The price point, the plethora of books both classic and new, and the way the app runs smoothly. There is no better service, I quickly canceled Audible after getting SCRIBD!

I have been using scribd for well over a year. I like the content selection but hate the app. I have errors and problems constantly. App takes a few minutes to get to THE most important part - the current book you are listening to. You can't just easily open the app and jump right in. If I in the meanwhile select the book from my history, it cuts off after a few minutes because it finally remembers what book I was on and stops the book to reopen it. If you're in car play, this just cuts off the audio for good until you restart it manually. Downloaded books tend to expire if you don't get to them soon enough. Then the app automatically downloads them again, which uses up your monthly allowance automatically so your can't add any news books until the next month. It cuts off playing randomly or crashes randomly. Sometimes downloads are corrupted so the app skips whole chapters without you realizing it. You have to delete and redownload the book to fix this. Sometimes multiple times. Finally sometimes it refuses to even connect stating there is a connection error. I just updated the app because it wouldn't let me change chapters on an audiobook that I was almost finished (another random bug, app just keeps on spinning while I wait for the chapter to load and it keeps on loading the same chapter). After the update now scribd can't "connect" despite a strong WiFi and cellular connection. It won't even detect my downloaded books. Oh and If you delete and reinstall the app.. guess what. It will delete all your downloaded books. Redownload them may use up your "unlimitedly monthly quota. You can't just tell the to not automatically redownload the previously downloaded books.
  • Lacking basic feature

Recommendations are static and not user controlable. Almost certainly this ‘oversight’ in what is a fundamental feature in any of SCRIBD’s many competitors, is built into the business model in order to put content they have an interest in you accessing takes precedence over other content. At any case they seem dedicated to keeping this aspect of the application in their sole control. As a result one has to self-censor one’s searches in a vain effort to beat their coercive recommendations. Not really useful as a tool under these conditions.
  • Not cool, Scribd.

Don’t advertise “unlimited” when you THROTTLE your subscribers after they read 1-2 books. I just finished listening to two books and then, all of a sudden, several books I had already *downloaded* (as in, they were available) are now UNAVAILABLE until next month. I feel cheated and lied to. Not cool, Scribd. Note: I don’t hate the idea that Scribd is going for. I don’t hate the app when it’s all working properly. What I do hate is when a company lies/misleads their customers.

I’ve been using this app for over a year now and from the very beginning till the latest update in 2019 it has had the same bug related to inability to download audiobooks. I have reported this problem 3 times and each time I receive a similar response of “we are hear to help you” but in reality the problem persists and has not be properly addressed. Why is it so difficult to resolve this I don’t understand when for example amazon’s audible or the Economist app can so easily download audio files to an iPhone.
  • Scribd is not “unlimited” !

After you listen to a couple of audiobooks in a month they don’t allow you to listen to any more until the next billing cycle. They say that the service is “unlimited”, but it is not. They are lying. If you only listen to one or two books a month then you won’t run into this problem, but for those avid listeners out there this is a huge problem.

So there’s both good and frustrating sides to this app. Good: 1. Its cheaper than audible or other services I’ve found- and most books I don’t really care to add to my library anyway because I’ll most likely only read or listen to once, so I don’t need the audible purchase option. Bad: 1. It says “unlimited” but in reality it’s only “unlimited for the first 2 weeks. After 2 weeks most of the books I have bookmarked (that were showing as available) will all of a sudden say “this title will be available on (whatever my renewal date is).” I sent a query about this and was told that it’s because titles are constantly rotating, but I looked on a friends app and the titles I wanted showed as available to her. It’s really just a ploy to get you to renew your subscription each month. Super frustrating!!! (Note: There’s still books available to me at that point, just none that I specifically want). 3. The player works well about 65% of the time. Lately it’s been stopping at the end of every chapter or jumping back two chapters and I have to re-find my place manually— also annoying. For how many books I listen to, it’s still the best deal though.

Great service, nice selection, just be aware after a certain number of titles, the entire selection shuts down, saying it will be available the day your subscription renews. Be sure you want to listen to the books you start to listen to because otherwise you are screwed until next month
