I want there to be Dark Mode support in this app. Otherwise, it is great. Good job, Apple!

This app is notthe prise that is promised. I was working on a project when all of a sudden it deleted everything I had done that day(which was a lot). I had to restart. The next day I was working on it again when all of a sudden the same thing happened. Also this app is very slow and half of the controls do not work. Sometimes, i even have to wait for about 20 minutes give or take just to quit the app. Although it is a good app for presentations I would not reccomend it for people writng important essays because the risk is too great.

  • Update: If Only They Would Do It

Update/update: Still no update They have to fix this bloody program. It deleted an entire chapter, just erased it without my fingers touching a key or a mouse, and I lost everything in that chapter for eternity. Why are is Apple letting this go to waste? This would be a truly beautiful and awe-inspiring book writing program for both interactive and regular books if only the folks at apple would work on this program and update it. I cannot, for the life of me, see why Apple has all but thrown it away. It’s layout is amazing and it looks just like reading a book on-line which helps when writing it to see what the reader is looking at. It’s features are incredible — or at least the ones that are there. As other reviews have noted, it is a stunning app, but why no bibliography, footnoting, and other accoutrements of writing books? Why no iphone or ipad version? Why no ability to do indexing? Why not exporting to kindle or just being able to compile the work and send it off to a publisher if one chooses that route? And so on and on. I echo others in my hopes that Apple will do something with this and not simply throw in more templates here and there. This has some amazing potention if only they would do it.
  • Not well designed for professional publishing.

Prior to this iBooks App, I have used and highly recommended Apple’s Pages application in its iWorks suite, for formatting both iBooks and printed books and magazines, suitable for professional authors and publishers. The Pages app accommodated 2-page layout “spreads” or “double-truck” formats for print publications, where left-hand pages allowed wider right margins, and right-hand pages allowed wider left margins, to leave a “gutter” width based on the number of pages in a printed book. Unfortunately, the new version of Pages omitted the 2-page spread option, making it worthless for print books. So I downloaded iBooks Author, hoping for a solution. But I can’t find it. This application allows horizontal layouts that look like 2-page spreads (for iPads and iPhones), but they don’t work for numbered left and right pages in print books. Despite the beautiful graphics and video capabilities, a serious author or publisher cannot stay in business selling only iBooks. The Pages 09 app was perfect for professionals, but it’s no longer compatible with current Mac operating systems. My entire library of personal and client books can no longer be revised or updated on Mac computers, and this iBooks version is not useful for established authors with broader markets to serve. (Darn it!)
