  • AN ACTUAL NEWSPAPER FORMAT

I love the traditional newspaper format of this app. Occasionally there is a technical glitch but if you just delete and reload the app it auto-corrects. I have used for years and it has improved greatly over time. Please don’t change or eliminate this version of the DMN! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

If you want to know what’s going on in Dallas, this is still the very best way to get the in-depth story.
  • EDIT: Continued improvement

2019-05-25: The app has a checkered past and I have previously rated it as low as one star, then raised it to three once some performance fixes came. It now finally rates four as the devs continue to make subtle improvements that have purged most of the bad experiences that plagued it in its early days. It doesn’t excuse the problems of the past, to be sure, but at least they didn’t give up. Of course, whatever future the DMN has surely rests in a digital presence, so I don’t suppose they have a choice. EARLIER: I previously one-starred this app for the screen-space-wasting ads which, apparently, have gone away. More notable is that an update on 2018-01-19 (version 3.0.9) appears to have improved performance considerably from before, most visibly in how it actually launches the paper. We'll see if it continues to be faster and stabler than it was prior to this version. For now, I'm upping my rating to 3 stars with the hope of raising it to 4 stars later.
  • No access to my paid subscription

Download the paper before you get on the Plane. Check that you have access. 50% of the time this app will wait to ask for your logon after you take off and need to pay for WiFi for the app to accept your logon or no access to the paper you have already downloaded. This is not that difficult, fix your app so it is usable or let someone else (kindle, apple) have access so we don’t have to switch to the WSJ. The response that I should use airplane mode to stop this from happening does not work.

Enjoy reading DMN on my iPad and have had ZERO issues with app crashing or not loading properly. It reads just like you were reading the paper version. Like the ability to switch back to original page of an article by clicking on “continued from 1A” or whatever page the article began. Easy to read font and easy to navigate from one section to another using menu.
