Statesman Live App Reviews

  • No search capability?

What a terrible app? Are you checking the reviews? How can you allow this terrible customer experience continue. Other subscriptions I pay for duplicate the actual paper. Fix this nightmare!
  • Infuriating pop-ins while scrolling

Scrolling through the headlines or through stories is infuriating. Your spot within the page jumps off the screen as you scroll into an area containing an ad. That ad loads in and the app snaps focus to make sure the ad is fully displayed at the expense of the user losing where they were reading. Ads cover the last few lines of every article. I have to scroll beyond the end of the page to pull those last few lines out from behind the ad. I will be going back to using the web-based ePaper version of the statesman because of these poor design choices.

This app is embarrassing. You are a good publication, you can do better than this. Please hire a firm that knows how to make apps.

Had the app for several months. It jumps into ads and gets annoying. I dumped it.
  • I’m a subscriber and this app is very poorly designed

Pros: App seems stable and that is important and the only reason it got two stars instead of one star. Cons: On my iPhone SE (with latest system update the text runs wildly over photos and graphics. Also the formatting makes it difficult to tell where one article stops and the next starts when browsing the section. App is slow to load and is very confusing, looks like a middle school attempt at programming and is by far the worst app on my phone. I have no problems with any other of my 25 apps, only this one. Unclear if all the articles from the daily paper appear in the app. Why can’t they just filter articles by the date and next to the headline state which day and page number it appeared as in the newspaper? I prefer to read the paper on a tablet but there are times that I want to read it on my phone like when I’m waiting for an appointment or especially to share an article with others. Why is this app so poorly designed? The paper itself has made big improvements with the new leadership but this app is an embarrassment.
  • The worst news app I’ve ever downloaded

Basically, it doesn’t do anything. It’s essentially the website, except the website works better.

I love the Statesman, but this app is an abomination. Not sure how it passed the Apple certification process.
  • Jumpy Scrolling

Very annoying to scroll looking for an article. Jumps forward then you have to scroll carefully back to where you were. Opens article I didn’t intend to open. Once I accidentally got on the Palm Beach Florida news app. Had to close app the reopen to get back to Austin. The worst aspect is the jumpy scrolling. Very annoying.
  • Slow, bloated and incomplete...

Had to use this app today as the American Statesmen did not deliver my paper today. What a waste of my time. The app is extremely slow and does not contain the latest news. There is NO news on this app for the local Longhorn football game for tomorrow. Or any Longhorn sports for that matter. After over 30 years of being a loyal subscriber I am finally at the point of canceling. The customer service for this news organization is poor and seemingly non-existent. I will have better luck getting my news from other local sources, at no cost, and no frustrations with something that is so simple by today’s standards. Advertisers are foolish to spend their ad dollars with this organization as they are not dependable.
