  • Why FLASH?! Good YNAB alternative

    By Hungover Rover
I was an avid use of YNAB until they abandoned their legacy customers in support of moving to a subscription based app. Slowly over time their “classic” app stopped being useful- full of bugs. Envelope style budgeting is the method that works best for me. I’m trying out several apps and Mvelopes is one of the top contenders. I had some issues with initial setup - setting up offline accounts and not having access to PCs with Flash. Setting up offline accounts like a Cash wallet is a feature missing from the mobile app, even though live tech support emailed the steps on how to do it on mobile - it’s just not there in the latest version of the app. Finally I was able to setup everything on a pc that had Flash. The website interface is a little hard to naviGate where everything is located. Also there is a disconnect design wise between the website and the mobile app
  • Not that good

Nothing more than a slightly different approach than most other budget apps. They get you on the trial and then you pay the $4 / month. And like most subscription based products they count on most people not getting around to cancel it for a while. Then when you do go to cancel it they make it difficult enough where they'll get another month or few out of you, cause who has time to sit down for hour plus that it might take to cancel it. Their website says you can cancel it online for an online account or in the App Store for a mobile account. I see no way to cancel this in the App Store.
  • The only way to go!

Mvelopes is the best budgeting system out there. We have been using “budgeting” software for as long as it existed; this is the only system that allows you to forward-fund your monthly budget instead of just tracking your expenses as most budget software programs do. We couldn’t live without it - it keeps us living within our financial means, save some money for the future and STAY OUT OF DEBT!
  • Cancellation - Buyer beware

    By Hollyberry12345
Forgot about free trial pend date and yes it is on me for forgetting to cancel. Well...apparently cancelling through them online on 1-30 and getting billed through April isn't their problem. Since...they has a disclosure buried in their website somewhere about how it is impossible to refund whether or not you cancelled your account online. Clearly...just another way to make a buck! Terrible business model for customers, just fine for them.
  • Great tracking system

    By LoveMvelopes
This program keeps me and my finances on track and organized. I studied a few options before I bought the lifetime service and this is by far one of the best options. They've upgraded a few times and it keeps getting easier to use. It does take a little getting used to at first but Stick with it - I really like the concept of having envelopes that help me plan for how I spend and save my money. I have seen their customer service take a bit of a dive. They promise 24 hour response time and that doesn't always happen. They are only available by chat (but not always at convenient times for the customer) or via email. Things are getting better - but they definitely need to be mindful that 24 hour response time is important especially since they promise it.
  • So-so app with one killer feature

    By Ngr33n
Usability and efficiency in this app are pretty underwhelming for something you’re supposed to use daily. Cumbersome workflows, an annoying proprietary keyboard, cryptic icons, and unintuitive syncing behavior make otherwise useful features into a bit of a chore at times. Oh, and they also try desperately to sell you all manner of financial counseling services and stuff like that, which is a bit of a nuisance, but bearable. I guess they mean well. The app has one extremely compelling feature, though: it automatically collects cash from envelopes to cover credit card transactions. We always have exactly enough cash in the credit card envelope to pay the credit card off immediately, so we can essentially use the card like cash, but build credit and earn rewards points. That’s really the only reason we keep using (and paying for) this app.
  • Very confusing

    By azbuck66
I really could not get the hang of this app. I spent a couple hours with it and it made no sense. In some screens I had too much allotted in another screen not enough. I couldn’t figure out how to let the app know that I’d already paid bills for the month. Utterly confusing. Deleted it and canceled trial. I really need a budgeting app to get my spending under control, but this was way too complicated.
  • Forcing me to pay

    By kyjarice
I've had Mvelopes for over a year and had to deal with the weekly pop ups about upgrading to premium. Now I have to pay a minimum of $3.99 a month to keep using the app. Rating a 1 because 0 is not an option!
  • Only app that looks forward

    By Kalila's
Money placed in envelopes for future expenses instead of past expenses. Now I use my credit card for everything and pay my balance off every month. But it’s no big deal because I’ve already accounted for it. Four stars instead of five because it is not possible to create custom reports.
