Tactical NAV App Description

Tactical NAV was created by a U.S. Army Field Artillery officer who was deployed to Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). While deployed, he saw a need for an MGRS-focused smartphone application that every Soldier and service-member in the world could utilize -- something the Department of Defense wasn't taking advantage of despite their massive budget of hundreds of billions of dollars. The original intent behind the app was to create a low-cost, accurate, and effective mobile navigational solution for military service-members that was built for accuracy. It allows users to pinpoint their location with precision accuracy, and acquire an MGRS/UTM/BNG/LAT-LONG coordinate to any location, anywhere in the world. Its performance is on par with the AN/PSN 13 Defense Advanced GPS Receiver (DAGR) and has been tested and used in combat. It has also been evaluated against other software systems the DOD uses such as CPOF, BFT, and other targeting solutions the Pentagon utilizes for target acquisition. FEATURES: - Military quality GPS tactical navigation system - WGS 84 standard and includes MGRS, UTM, BNG and USNG - Sandtable drawing mode (In app purchase) - Navigation mode - Scalable gridlines with grid designators - Waypoint plotting functionality with military graphics - Location and waypoint sharing via email, text and Facebook with other users - Compass “FastLock” function for capturing quick azimuths - Quickly swipe between various types of coordinate and location data - Camera mode with data displayed in real-time and photo stamping capability - One-button night mode function for low-light situations - "Go to Grid" option for pinpoint planning and drawing of overlays - Tested in combat to ensure utmost accuracy and reliability - And much more!!! MEDIA COVERAGE: Featured in the Army Times, BBC, CNN, CBS News, FOXNEWS, MSNBC, the DailyMail, the NY Times, and many more! =================== Bottom line, Tactical NAV puts the Military Grid Reference System (MGRS), the British National Grid (BNG), Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM), and the United States National Grid (USNG) at your disposal. Yes, you can now finally access the same resources used by the U.S. military and NATO armed forces. And it's just as accurate as anything the U.S. government and NATO uses today. Soldiers and service-members will appreciate how TACNAV can help them in the field. Map, plot, photograph, and share navigational points with other users. Find your way back to an observation post, employ the night mode function for easier viewing in the dark, and switch quickly between different types of coordinate data and take advantage of the camera mode for real-time and photo stamping capabilities, and build overlays for mission planning, too. Everything you need is here, and has been extensively tested for accuracy in the remote mountains of Kunar Province, Afghanistan, during combat operations. Tactical NAV is on par with many of the GPS devices used by Soldiers and service-members today, and is just as accurate as devices (referencing the DAGR) costing thousands of dollars. Do yourself a favor. Download Tactical NAV now and put a portable, military-quality tactical-navigation software solution to work for you. IMPORTANT NOTES: Tactical NAV is not endorsed by the Department of Defense nor should it be used in combat situations in place of a government issued device.

Tactical NAV App Reviews

  • App keeps freezing

    By Pugtech1
Running 3.6.6 on 12.2, the app keeps freezing and shutting down while zooming in/out.
  • Good for site surveys, but camera and maps could be better

    By Mr. SilverFox
I’m an aviator and find this app useful for recon of landing zones and other areas. I love the camera function with the grids, date time group, and azimuth displayed. This part of the app would be more useful if the camera could zoom in and out and allow choosing a specific point in the scene for adjusting focus and exposure. This is the case in both the iOS and Android versions. Separately, the ability to upload my own geopdfs, geotiffs, or mbtiles maps would make it about perfect for what it does.

Jonathan Springer the inventor of Tactical NAV is a genius. This app I do so wish I had in 2003 in Iraq. I use it when I am out 4 wheeling in my Jeep. Great for hiking camping. This app can be a life savor! I highly recommend it. Bob Maher
  • Excellent training tool

As an Air Force JTAC Instructor and Evaluator, there is no better commercial app to use while conducting training in a dynamic environment. Having the ability to plot and range MGRS coordinates with 1 meter imagery is invaluable.
  • What an update!

    By HowitzerM777
Holy smokes, I really wasn’t expecting this update! This is now the BEST military app on the App Store. The navigation function works like clockwork too. Really looking forward to future updates. Nicely done!
  • Great App

I had the tigr system in 2014 when it came out in CCO 1-327. That system was very helpful and made marking and planning a breeze. After trying tactical NAV I’m a little bias toward it now. It’s user friendly design makes it easy for the private all the way up the chain of command. I would trust this app on the battlefield and during training more than what’s out now. I’ve tried several apps when it comes to Military use and use in my hobbies such as hunting and fishing. I have been able to mark way points on big bodies of water and rivers and it takes me right back to them each time. Great app and well worth it!
  • Great app!

Great app for navigating in the backcountry or battlefield! No other comes close to TacNav!
  • Better than a DAGR and JCR.

    By Really6373
Just downloaded the latest update and am very impressed. Used this during our NTC rotation and it got me out of some binds. Already better than JCR and way better than a DAGR.

I downloaded this app when it first came out and have been super excited and happy for all the updates. You can use this app in the field or on the street. It’s user friendly and the interface is pretty simple to understand. I would definitely recommend this app to anyone who enjoys a good GPS.
  • Multipurpose navigation

This app is everything I’ve been looking for, I can use it for work purposes and recreational as well, I do a lot of hunting and snowmobiling in my free time and I can count on this app to help me no matter where I’m at.
