  • Needs current subway map!

    By Tokyo June 2013
Subway map seriously out of date! Where is the Oedo E Line?? Enjoyed the What's Around Me feature, but didn't use the app for much else... Not having a current subway map really hurt this app's usefulness for me.
  • This app helped me a lot in Tokyo

    Nice app
  • Restaurant database is pretty weak

    By Prairieridge
I bought this and used it to plan a bit before leaving home but I didn't find it very useful once I got to Tokyo. As a way to get a sense for what's in a city and what you theoretically could do in a day, this app is ok but I found a Frommers or Lonely Planet guide on my e-reader to be better for overall use. The descriptions of "attractions" were pretty bare bones. Once I arrive in a new city, pre-made plans tend to go out the window. The restaurant database was particularly weak for a city as richly endowed as Tokyo. There are better web-based guides to eating in Tokyo. The one piece of this app that I did use was the currency calculator. The idea behind the app is good but it didn't work out for me in Tokyo.
  • Ok

App is ok, maps and phone numbers of sights and subway stops (if, without great detail) are adequate. Subway map is pathetic.
  • Practically Useless

This app has a lot of potential, but its core functionality as an offline mapping/guide tool doesn't work because for whatever reason, the GPS won't get a lock. The only time I was able to get it to work was when I was in my hotel room with an active wifi connection. So much of the power of this app relies on the GPS that it make the rest of the app almost pointless.
  • Good Concept - Bad Execution.

After reading some great reviews, I purchased this app with high expectations. Although I've been to Tokyo more than a couple dozen times, I can always use some help navigating through this complex maze of streets and subway systems. So I preplanned my destinations thinking that this app will be a great resource for way finding when I arrived in Tokyo... I'm in Tokyo now trying to use this app for the last four days on the streets of Tokyo. Unfortunately, unless your needs are VERY basic, this app is not useful. Fundamental issue with this app is that the offline map is not detailed enough to find locations you are looking for. Tokyo has too many side streets and complex addressing system that render this simplistic approach useless. Some specific issues: - The app cannot find a location by entering addresses. -Routing function is very unreliable. The app will often recommend routes that take you way out of the way. - Destination database is very basic. Beyond the very limited predefined destinations, this app relies on the user to provide information, and presumably updates their database with user input, although I've not noticed any database updates since purchasing this app several weeks ago. - Often, GPS has difficulty finding your location in Tokyo, intermittently losing your location making continuous tracking along a route unreliable.. - At times app crashes e,.g. trying to recalculate route using subways, as it crashes when changing routing from walking to public transit systems. - Automatic itinerary planning function is a great idea but without a reliable routing engine, it is also useless. ...there are just too many issues with this app to list. I would not take this app with me on my next trip to Tokyo. There are simple and free apps which I found very useful such as "" to calculate metro station point to point routes, times, costs, and "Tokyo" which graphically maps the subway metro system. And of course, if you have internet connection in Tokyo, Google Map is also very handy.
  • THE essential Tokyo visitors app

    By -_- zzzz
Just got back and wanted to let any first/second time visitors know.....for the offline GPS alone, get this app! I had my phone's cell and data off the whole time, but the included feature allowed for a immensely better trip. the itinerary list/engine and updatable walking/bus directions make it all the better. I never write reviews, but wanted to help any others planning their first trip.

    Very good
  • Great App

While I am still planning my trip and have not used this in Tokyo, I find it a great tool! You can plan a route via foot and subway currently but I would like to see the JR system as well. If the database grows this app will be 5*
  • Cool, useless features

    By Qwertyiooljhfds
I used augmented reality and the itinerary feature on a recent trip to Tokyo. While cool, I did not use them. AR did not help me get around Tokyo (is AR really useful to navigate a 15 minute walk thru alleys? Itineraries do not take into distance enough, so you might have to go across Tokyo. As a former resident of Tokyo, it is clear that the makers of this app never went to Tokyo. The venues are all from the guidebooks and the descriptions useless. Worth buying only if you want to try AR for yourself or curious about itinerary feature
