Garmin Pilot App Description

*30 Days Free Trial on initial download!* Plan. File. Fly. Log. Garmin Pilot is the most comprehensive suite of tools for the iPad designed specifically for general aviation and corporate pilots. Flight planning, charts, interactive maps, weather briefing resources and navigation capabilities; it’s all included. The app’s intuitive interface mirrors those on the newest Garmin touchscreen avionics so you can go seamlessly from preflight to inflight. Plan Garmin Pilot’s powerful capabilities start with pre-flight planning, providing pilots with the most comprehensive aviation weather information to make better-informed flight decisions. Pilots can check NEXRAD radar, visible and infrared cloud imagery, METARs, TAFs, AIRMETs, SIGMETs, PIREPs, NOTAMs, winds and temperature aloft, TFRs and lightning data. With Garmin Pilot, data can be displayed over Garmin’s interactive maps that support track-up navigation, VFR sectional or an IFR low or high en-route chart to visualize the weather for your route. Add text-based weather widgets and use the exclusive NavTrack feature to view weather along the planned route. File With Garmin Pilot, users can easily enter a flight plan and interactively edit it on the map. Pre-loaded forms make it quick to save and reuse data for frequently flown routes. And when the flight plan is ready, Garmin Pilot makes it simple to file, amend or close the flight plan via Leidos Flight Service or DUATS. Fly Garmin Pilot provides full en-route navigation capability on its moving map. Pilots can also navigate with Garmin’s patented panel, a GPS-driven instrument pack with a graphical HSI directional display and indicators for groundspeed, altitude and vertical speed. After takeoff, pilots can continue to view real-time weather in the U.S. and traffic information by wirelessly connecting to Garmin’s GDL 39 3D portable ADS-B Receiver (sold separately). Log Garmin Pilot includes a comprehensive electronic logbook that syncs with flyGarmin. The logbook automatically generates entries based upon GPS data collected during the flight, tracks currency, supports manual entries, endorsements and creates reports. • Great EFB

I have used this app for two months now and it has been great. Like all of Garmin's products, there is good support, the product is intuitive and easy to use, the colors are vivid and the fetchers are awesome. I am just downloading the latest version today, I am sure I will not be disappointed. Update 08/15/18 I’ve used the app for years, and they continue to improve and add valuable features. One of the only complaints is lack of echo tops, this is the biggest pain in the you know what to have to look outside the app for this info, or not have it at all while relying solely on GP. Please help Garmin!

Great app... but, this morning the radial menu quit working on my iPad and iPhone... possible problem with the recent update? Not sure where to go for support?
  • Good app, bad bug resolution and tech support

Can’t click an airport and get weather, airport info, etc. as I could in previous versions. Just get the spinning wheel. This used to work fine. After 9.4.1 it no longer works. Garmin aviation support acknowledged the spinning wheel issue in 9.4.1 and customer service/tech support first told me on 8/13/18 the issue was fixed “3 hours ago” and to check again after rebooting. Did that and called in again when the spinning wheel wasn’t resolved. Next agent tells me the issue is fixed with the latest update. I hang up and check the App Store - 9.4.1 is the latest, problem is still occurring. Next agent I speak to, states I have to uninstall and reinstall. Cool. No problem. I have “just” enough time to do that before my scheduled departure. Do that, and guess what... Still have the spinning wheel. Pretty disappointed that basic functionality has been broken for so long now. I originally thought maybe I had an LTE coverage issue or something but nope. This is happening on my iPhone and iPad while connected to LTE, Wireless and my brand new GDL52.... spent a lot money investing in the now broken Garmin Pilot ecosystem of products. Thankfully still within my return window to return the GDL52 to Sporty’s and go to Foreflight.

I am a huge fan of Garmin pilot and if you're reading this deciding whether or not to use it over ForeFlight, you'd be making a good decision to try it out. I find the user interface design to be superior in Garmin pilot. HOWEVER, one of the best things about this app, the radial menu, is not loading properly in the most recent version! When I long press over an airport it doesnt load the airport, weather, or any other items that typically appear on the right side of the radial menu. It just shows the inner loading ring indefinitely. This is true on both my iPhone and iPad pro. It's killing me because I use that menu constantly during a flight. Finally, there needs to be a better way to get support and report bugs. Submitting a review, like this one should be a last resort.

Used this app days before my check ride, the day of it began to have problems opening. I would have to delete and redownload the app the fix the issue. But @5000agl that isn’t an option for me. Luckily I had a backup android device that worked with FltPln.com

  • Winds Aloft causing Crash

On my updated iOS device the app crashes every time I select Winds Aloft from the Airport Info wheel after tapping an airport from the Map view. Other than that, good update.
  • Poor logbook reports and more

Please, improve your logbook reports, it’s almost impossible to print the legit logbook for interview. Need to add: *CA TEC routes in flt planning **Apple watch support (especially notifications, since it have a Taptic Engine) ***Access NOTAMS faster, maybe thru radial menu ****Ability to bookmark relevant pages in chart supplement *****Ability to print the logbook ******KHHR is still showing awkward airspace (very dangerous for pilots not familiar with LAX!!)

I have had this app for a few years now and it worked fine until apple went to iso10 now the app won’t work on anything less that a 10 running machine. Called them up and they blame my “old” equipment The techs are really worthless and know nothing about bug fixes so needless to say you pay them $75 for a worthless app. Very disappointed that a company this big can’t get their s..t. Together
