  • Not good

This site only sends you people they think are “on your level” so beware and post your prettiest pic. I know, yuck. The new algorithm and weird messaging system is invasive, patronizing, and just plain stupid.

On one hand, I understand the need to do something about the number of unwanted messages women receive from men. On the other hand, this change has made it virtually impossible for men to be proactive about attracting someone’s attention in any other way but a single image, which makes okc more like tinder than it used to be, which is why I was a such a fan of okc. My brother met his wife on okc, and it was because of a message he sent, not a picture to picture match. This change will likely make me give up on okc completely.
  • Matches are trash, features crippled and A-List a scam

    By TGVL
I returned to my account after being locked out of another service. Since doing so the same 8-12 matches have been the only ones available. Most of them appear to be fake, there is no substance to the written portion of the profile and the photos are neatly staged or borderline pornographic. After using this service for years with very few visitors and practically no likes, I suddenly received dozens of likes. I assumed they were fake and plunked down the cash for a month of A-List to see what popped up. The final count didn’t match what the app suggested the total to be prior to subscribing. And sure enough, they were all clearly fake. No new likes materialized while I was a paid subscriber. I let my A-List subscription lapse several days ago and shortly thereafter new likes are appearing again on a daily basis. I needn’t comment on the crippled feature set. There are abundant complaints about low matches, invisible messages, Tinder games. No point in having the developers truck out another of their tired copy/paste responses. Especially since they aren’t even bothering to copy/paste them with the reviews the replies were prewritten to address. Just forget about using this service. Certainly don’t pay for it.
  • Nigerian Liars

Too many scary things are happening with OKC. They need to have a way to screen people! I was talking to a guy for about a month. The more I talked to him the weirder it got. He told me he was a contractor working back and forth in Nigeria. In one of his trips, he had to take his 6 year old daughter...she got very sick and his company had not paid him yet. He wanted me to wire him money to pay for his daughters hospital stay. I never fell for his trap. EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE VERY CAREFUL! I will no longer use this dating website, this is incredibly scary! OKC DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM!
  • Becoming Useless

OkCupid has continually removed useful tools in discerning great matches and being able to contact them - all under the guise of "user safety." First they took away direct messaging, now they removed the ability to sort through your match's answers based on categories. There's absolutely no logical justification for this. If someone answers a question publicly, they are consenting to disclose that information to their matches. It serves to dig deeper into someone's personality, values and beliefs. Really helpful for people who give a sh*t about what makes us unique. OkCupid has made it so that you cannot sort through these answers in any effective or efficient way. I would like to know specifically how this improves a users experience on the app, let alone a paying user. I would also like to know how this doesn't contribute to the objectification of others. OkCupid obviously does not want users learning about their matches since they have made it much more difficult to do that. Most likely will be cancelling my subscription since the app is becoming just another swipe culture casualty. Sad to see.
  • What happened to this app???

    By Mansonesque
I used this app a year or two ago, and it was so much better then! I miss people being able to just read one another’s messages without having to like each other’s profiles. Also, I must be doing something wrong, because I just cannot figure out how this whole system is supposed to work. I hate this setup. Going back to POF and Tinder. POF is better at going through potential matches, and at least Tinder is easy to understand

i have never encountered any issues with okc interface until this instance. the app has no clear indication around their “boost” option and my bank account was charged without my consent for a service i did not desire. it would be helpful if a “do you confirm this purchase” bubble popped up before every instance of money being taken out. i didn’t even realize the app had withdrawn from my bank account until i was later looking at my bank statements. it is also extremely unclear how to navigate a “boost” // what the button does // what you are receiving in exchange. honestly i’m probably going to stop using the app over the concern that i will be nonconsentually charged again.
