  • Service works fantastically well!

I'm not sure what all the recent negative reviews are about, but I've been using Line2 off and on for many years with nothing but great success. Traveling overseas mainly in Europe, it is an extremely cost-effective way to call add text the US and Canada. The call quality has virtually always been outstanding, including over cellular networks. And you don't even need 4G or LTE to make and receive calls reliably. 3G is more than enough. I've experienced no disconnects, no garbled voice calls, no lost texts. I can't really talk about any of the special features, as I don't use them. I just use it for calls and texts. I would even go so far as to say that the app and the service works unusually well! I would have gladly given the app five stars if there had been the occasional dropped call or problem of another kind, but in my experience, the service provides remarkably consistent quality and reliability with every call.

Phone does not always ring. I get an email that alerts me to voicemail, or else I would never know I got a call. Forwarding to this app is unreliable. No feature to change ringtones. Forgive me if I don’t contact Customer Support, because when I did it the first time because I could not forward my work phone to my Line 2 number, I was told to contact my cell phone provider. You assured me the problem was with them. Then, when that turned out to be untrue, you told me my free trial period was over, when in fact I had been paying for the app for 4 months. What the problem turned out to be was Apple billed me a day late and so you simply stopped serving me. So, I don’t really have a lot of faith in your abilities.

If they can’t make a button work, I can only imagine how poor their call quality and overall reliability must be. No thanks. Sooo, yeah. That’s one way to keep people from using your app.
  • Been using it for 3 years and it has only gotten better.

We use this app as a business phone line, and it has worked wonderfully for that. We looked at a number of the different options available, and the deciding factor for us was that Line2 is the only second line app that allows for payments to be made by credit card rather than through my iTunes account, which was essential to keeping this as a business expense separate from my own personal expenses. All of the other options required payments to be made via in-app purchase. At the time, this app was a bit more expensive than the other options, but the ability to setup an account from the Line2 website rather than from within iTunes was worth the extra couple of bucks it was going to cost us. And it’s certainly worth noting that all of those lesser expensive options have since all raised their prices, while Line2 has remained at its initial cost. You’re able to select from a list of available numbers to find one you like best, rather than simply being stuck with what ever random number is assigned to you. You can also port over an existing number if you’re coming from another phone company or service provider. And you can opt for a vanity number for a nominal fee as well, which can be great for marketing. The app functions flawlessly hidden in the background, and works seamlessly from within the iPhone. All Line2 calls appear clearly and distinctly in your iPhone call center allowing you to return missed calls received on Line2 directly from the call center without needing to first launch the Line2 app. The customer service and tech support is top notch. Very attentive and prompt. They were back to me within the hour of my initial email, and made a number of follow up contacts via phone to walk me through a process that I was having trouble with. They even checked back a few weeks after the issue had long been resolved to see if everything was still working smoothly. They also offer a rather robust upgrade path that allows for multiple numbers, or multiple users on a single number with individual extensions, and an automated directory service for directing calls to different phones. We are currently considering this as our business will soon be outgrowing the basic offerings of a simple second line. And, again, Line2 seems to be the only option to meet these needs. I do have a couple of features that I would like to see addressed in future releases, however. First, I would like more robust contacts list capabilities. Specifically, I would like the option to create a Line2 contact list, or be able to select existing contact lists within my Contacts app that Line2 would then simply sync with rather than having to import all of my contacts into Line2 to access the business contacts I need to have in Line2. And, as seemingly insignificant as this may sound, it would be nice to be able to assign a custom ring tone to Line2 calls. All in all, we have been very happy with the app, and I recommend it without reservation.

If you want reliability, better use Google voice, Fongo, or a second/dual sim cellphone. With Line2, some incoming calls just roll to voicemail. Some calls have no audio. Messaging mostly works though. In my experience voip apps which use apple push notifications to alert on incoming calls are more reliable. Backgrounded app voip is problematic. The five star reviews are puzzling given my experience with this service/app.

I informed the company that texts I receive are jumbled. They responded but never fixed the problem. You can’t forward text messages via email, etc Few features.

Wish I had found this app sooner. Way better and cheaper than Ringcentral. iPad app cool for texting.
