Pocket: Save Stories for Later App Reviews

  • Very Helpful

Comes in handy when you want stay current on information but you don’t have time to read because you’re multitasking.
  • Do not pay for premium -- also missing basic apps

    By Austin Aggie
Adding to previous review: the app continues to add features that do not add value to me while losing or missing others. * web view no longer works only shows first image * document parsing is not as good as it used to be. That is a core function * premium search makes search unusable if you have large archives. Too many results that are simply noise. I would gladly pay if doing so didn’t degrade the experience. Below is my previous review and is still accurate. The app is losing key functionality year over year. There are now several other better options. My issues include: - cannot share a full article without first opening with safari. All other options save a snipet only. Most do not include the category tags. - the premium service addon includes tag suggestions, but the user must manually apply. Very significant workflow issue! - cannot limit number of items downloaded

The most recent update seems to have moved everything into archived and I’m not sure adding new items is working at all
  • Great App - Use It All The Time

    By SoonerRoadie
I use this app all the time and absolutely love it. It’s great for my metro ride where I regularly lose internet access, and it’s a great repository for all of the articles that I want to save.

This is my favorite app and it’s the best app out there for people who like to read a lot of online articles. Every day I add about 10 stories (sports, politics, entertainment, etc) from a variety of websites, then read them offline during the day when I have time.
  • Perfection—Now w/ highlighting 🙌

Beautifully designed. Seamless integration with my all my reading apps, browsers, Twitter clients, RSS readers, and desktop browsers, both Mac and PC. How did I live without this for so long?
  • My favorite way to read things

Many websites interrupt my reading with pop-ups. Pocket eliminates this annoyance. It lets me do my reading off-line. I can adjust font size, and invert colors for bedtime reading. I have it on my Android phone and my iPad. I have the same reading list on both.
  • It’s nice, but could be so much better!

I’ve used Pocket for years now and subscribe to Premium. Overall, the app does what it’s supposed to; making for an excellent way of storing nearly anything for later viewing. However, I don’t understand the logic of having to click multiple things to share or recommend articles, adding to one’s favorites, or adding to a custom folder. It’s tedious! Instapaper has a button one can click to add to one’s “Likes” (favorites) list, as well as sharing the item to a social network, all with a single tap! Pocket could really use such a customizable feature to speed up the process of not only reading but also sharing things with others. As well as sorting content as desired. Some of the buttons in the article list are not properly labeled for VoiceOver accessibility. The Search and other menu options are labeled with a random set of characters, and have not been fixed after I’ve made reports to support about that issue. Lastly, the app tends to crash when browsing the Recommended list of articles. It’s one of the best features offered by Pocket, but again, reports of crashes have gone unanswered. That’s why I give this the lower rating. If Instapaper didn’t have its own crashing issues, I’d simply use that. But I believe Pocket is superior, but has these minor annoyances which actually add up to using additional time to complete simple tasks (IMO). Again, it’s nice, but could be so much better!
  • Super handy app

Still one of my favorite apps and it keeps getting better. I love the new highlighter tool! Pocket is such a great way to save articles and other content. Kind of like a virtual scrapbook that lets you keep anything. Makes life easier.
  • Great app, recommendations could be better

    By B. Ichaso
I like the concept of the app and use it often, but I wish there was a way to filter the “recommendations” part, and that section is flooded with garbage, sensationalist articles from Medium, Buzzfeed, or self-help sites, basically spam. Also, recommendations for political articles are overwhelmingly leftish, laden with PC-policyng.
