The New York Times App Reviews

  • Nonfunctional! I wish I hadn't updated.

    By 5&@" ytrk
Love the Times, hate the app. It won't refresh. Have re-downloaded app multiple times but it is essentially nonfunctional. 6/18/18 Today’s update WILL NOT OPEN on my ipad!
  • Auto play videos???

    By BangkokHoD
What ever possessed the developers to make videos auto-play the default setting in this new version?? What are they thinking! Auto play videos is the bane of the internet! This makes an otherwise excellent app mediocre at best.
  • Going to cancel

    By tri athlete kona
Too many rotating and twirling advertisements to concentrate. You removed articles previously viewed button I will cancel soon if you don't fix this
  • Ads and more ads

    By joelcw
It's a travesty that such fine content is obscured by avertising. The worst news app that I use by far.
  • Recent and regular crashes

    By Lonnie Book
I’m a daily reader of the app and have been for years. It is beautifully thought out and visually compelling but links to articles within articles constantly crash - even when they link to the Times’ own content and featured stories in roundups. This has been an issue for about a month. I keep reading, hoping for a fix, but several times a day find myself staring at a blank screen.
  • Ads are a major disruption

    By APierceArch
While the app’s interface is good (though no better than other major print media apps, in my experience) I have found that the ads placed within the text are incredibly disruptive. Not visually disruptive — they are easy enough to scroll right past and keep reading in most instances — but literally disruptive to the app’s function. I have found that scrolling frequently locks up when an ad begins to enter the bottom of the screen, often requiring that I exit and restart the app to regain control. I have also found semi-regularly that ads pause any audio I may be playing simultaneously on another app — music from Spotify, for instance — requiring that I navigate to the other app to restart it. As often as not, this occurs without my even hearing any ad audio: just silence and the sound of my own frustration.
  • Just a minor issue...

    By ItasFlores
Is there a way you can negotiate with Twitter to open the news link ib your app so I can read them on twitter as I scroll through twitter? Otherwise I have to search for the article on your app... :(
  • Developers - Your ads will not stop auto-playing

    By JeffNYC101
Please fix so I can read the news while listening to music on the same device!
  • What’s the point?

    By Vulgar demos
I subscribe to NYT which allows me to read articles. When I do so on the web, I don’t see ads. But this app shows me ads on every single article. So using a browser remains an infinitely better experience. So, I ask: what’s the point?
  • Poor response

    By mmhatl
I subscribed to digital edition of Times more than a week ago. Although my credit card has been charged for the subscription I am still receiving the message that I have read all the free articles to which I am entitled. It asks me if I would like to subscribe?! I have contacted the Times and received an email that I would hear from someone there “shortly.” As it has been about 24 hours now I would be interested in a definition for the word shortly.
