Banktivity 7 App Description

Goodbye financial stress, hello Banktivity! Banktivity lets you see all of your accounts in one place so you can make smarter financial decisions. Ditch your old worn out finance software. Banktivity is the best – you deserve it, your finances deserve it! "Banktivity is like taking the best of YNAB, Quicken, and MoneyDance and mixing them together beautifully." – Kenny Drobnack Exceptionally good technical support via live chat and email with US-based representatives. √ GET ORGANIZED The first step in money management is to get all your finances in one place. If you’ve used software like Quicken (for Mac or PC), Banktivity's set-up assistant will import your old data. Next — or if you’re just starting out — download current transactions from your bank accounts online, at no cost, via direct connection to your bank or by using Banktivity's built-in browser to view your accounts and download your data for free. Banktivity's optional Direct Access* service makes this even easier by connecting to over 14,000 banks worldwide, automatically delivering the latest transaction data to your Mac. √ SEE WHERE THE MONEY GOES Banktivity has the tools you need to set up checking accounts, savings, credit cards, real estate, mortgages, investments and budgets. Then track each and every transaction: fine-tune them by categorizing, tagging, splitting or making custom edits — or let transaction templates do the work for you. Attach receipts or any file to transactions; reconcile to paper statements; search; track payments or transfers in any currency; and manage repeating events with scheduled transactions. Banktivity also lets you pay bills online! Set up payees, send checks, track their progress and see them appear in your register. You can print checks, too. Update your accounts at once with Banktivity's Update Everything button, syncing devices and fetching Direct Access data, securities prices even currency exchange rates. √ BUILD SAVINGS Banktivity's budgeting tools help you to set saving and spending goals, track expenses, cut debt and build a more secure future. By giving your available cash specific purposes, envelope budgeting lets you assign money to different categories and carry over savings. Banktivity automatically budgets scheduled transactions like paychecks and bills, so by categorizing each expense and editing the budget itself, you can see where your money goes — and how to make it go further! Banktivity does this visually so that you can see your daily progress; compare past, current or projected budgets; and view it all in a Budget vs. Actual report. √ SECURE YOUR FUTURE Banktivity's investment features manage stocks, bonds, mutual funds, IRAs, 401Ks, CDs and other assets. You can track buys, sells, splits, dividends, options and more. Banktivity calculates IRR, ROI and gains and losses. You can even pick which lots you've sold from. Built-in report templates (Income & Expense, Net Worth, Payee Summary and more) dynamically analyze your finances. Assign tax codes to transactions to generate a Tax Summary report (or export data to TurboTax); or view your holdings in the Portfolio or Investment Summary reports. Banktivity's reports instantly generate graphs and charts. You can drill down for detail with a click, export table data to spreadsheets, and print reports or save them as PDFs. √ WE’RE THERE FOR YOU - BEST IN CLASS SUPPORT No matter where you are, you can enter transactions on the go with Banktivity for iPhone (free on the App Store), or sync accounts, budgets and investments to Banktivity for iPad for mobile money management (iPad app sold separately). If you need help, get unlimited email support or Live Chat for answers quickly. Banktivity offers built-in Help files, plus a downloadable user manual, a searchable Knowledge Base and video tutorials at our site. *Direct Access subscriptions via In-App Purchase.

  • Finally a usable replacement for Quicken!

    By ColoradoPhotog
I tried this about 4 years ago when it was iBank and I found it lacking and I stuck it out with Quicken. My biggest issue with Quicken is that they don't like to communicate with PayPal - it will work for awhile - maybe a year or so then one side will change something and syncing won't work properly. Since 98% of my income comes in through PayPal - and many business expenses are paid through it - it is vital that I track it carefully. Quicken blames PayPal, PayPal blames Quicken and we get stuck in the middle. Banktivity lets me connect to PayPal either directly through the app, or by downloading Quicken QIF files (which Quicken for Mac cannot read!). I opted for the download as it gives me more detailed information. I have just converted everythigng over to Banktivity. It will cost me a little bit more than Quicken what with the $44/year Direct Connectivity subscripton, but that more than makes up for the numerous hours wasted each year trying to get PayPal and Quicken synced which proably ate up a couple thousand dollars of my time per year. There are some ergonimic quirks that are minor that keeps me from giving this five stars, but overall I am happy I can finally tell Quicken to kiss my derriere!
  • Banktivity 7 – In One Word – Frustrating

    By pismokitty
I want to like this App. I've been using Banktivity and it's former app name, iBank for several years now through multiple versions. I've also been a Mac user since 1984. Some of the design choices in this app just pain me. Banktivity continues to be the most un-Mac-like app that I use on a consistent basis. As much as they charge for this app, and the fact that we're now on version 7, it would be great if basic functionality like the ability to match transactions worked. It worked in previous versions but alas, no longer. This alone makes using additonally priced Direct Access worthless for me as often times transactions don't import till days later, after I've already manually input some of them. It's a real pain when you've put in a split transaction with multiple categories and descriptions only to find that Banktivity didn't match it through Direct Access thus making my account totals wrong. And you can't just delete the imported one and use the existing entry to correct it becuase it will just reimport it on the next refresh. Your left with the task of basically re-entering all your split transactions to the newly imported transaction since it won't let you merge them, thus redoing work that you already did. Direct Access is supposed to make your life easier but for me, it just creates more work because I'm contstantly having to clean up after it. I would say in the past month of using direct access, it matches a previously entered transaction 1/4 of the time, leaving me to clean-up the mess 3/4 of the time. Subscribing to Direct Access is a joke too. I finally signed up for it after ignoring the extra paid feature for years and it didn't even ask me which of the Direct Access subscriptions I wanted to subscribe to. Considering it's in the Mac App Stores where app subscriptions must go through Apple's system, it's baffling to me how the Direct Access sign-up process was even approved by Apple. I think it started me off with a free 30-day trial of direct access when I connected the first account, but nowhere in the app does it actually say this or try to explain my supposed subscription to me. It has yet to show up in my iTunes Account with all my other subscriptions so I dont' even know how to manage it. And lastly, I agree with other reviews that point out that Family Sharing is a lie with this app. The app is essentially free for 30 days before your required to unlock it with an in-app purchase. But in-app purchases cannot be shared with family members, so even if a family member downloads the app from your purchase in the App-Store, it's just going to make them pay after 30 days, no differently than if they just downloaded it from the app page in the Mac App Store. There is no Family sharing benefit whatsoever. The fact they say it supports family sharing is completely disingenuous. For the number of years I've been using this app, and the number of times I've paid to upgrade to the next version, it's very disappointing when basic things just don't work. Come on IGG, you can do better than this. Dont' drive me to bail on you like I did with Quicken 10 or so years ago when I made the switch to iBank. My patience is running out.

After years of frustration using Quicken, finally an app that works how you'd expect it to.
  • QIF Import Error

    By JCW308E
QIF import error (well-documented) means I can't import my data into this program. QIF import is working in many other programs.
  • Great software!

I have used Banktivity for years and strongly recommend it. I migrated from Money and have seen the app evolve over time to provide similar benefits which is great.
  • Paid upgrades = 0 support!

    By lasttrolley
Purhcased the prefous version and month later they relised v.7 — now i need to pay 35 USD for upgrade. Disrespectful developers!
  • Solid basics--weak advanced features--no support

    By dbhill916
I have used this program and its predecessors for about 5 years now. It is excellent for keeping multiple checkbooks organzied, especially those that have transfers between them. I find the report generating section to be very limited and wish that I had more granular control to write queries. The investment component is baffling to me. When I try to sync to my investment accounts, the program reports that I have a net worth of several million dollars. I Wish!🤑 I've written for help/explanations, but never get any response from the company. Bottom line: an excellent and stable accounting program for a home or very small business. YMMV, especially with tracking investments.
  • Best Banking app ever!

I have used this app for years, and I really like the new style. I've kept control of my finances with this app, and never late with payments. Thanks for making such an intuitive banking app :)
