  • Terrible app

The app, unlike the website, is horrible. Looks like a ten year old designed it.
  • Such a shame

They automatically charge you $50.00 after the 14 day trial period and will not issue a refund. This is only for an app. $50.00 for an app- this is such a shame and how they make their money- by conning people into a ‘free trial’.
  • Think twice before subscribing or downloading this app..

Given the lack of fresh & modern content, restrictive access and overall elitist vibe from the entire enterprise, I’m not sure why I was surprised that the “new” app followed the same formula as the old people running the company. I’m done with all things ATK/CI/CC once my annual subscription has expired. VERY archaic approach to content access within the app(the exception being the shopping list feature). My subscription includes “all access including cooking school” and yet the features couldn’t be more inaccessible. It’s as if they set out to make it as difficult as possible to visit their websites. Waste of time!
  • Useful but overall — meh

So I’ve been a long-time but intermittent subscriber — going back to Cook’s Magazine. I like the magazines and trust the recipes. Not so much the app. I subscribed through their web site and that’s where I usually use it. I like being able to find recipes I’ve saved on my phone but really was disappointed I couldn’t access product reviews & articles through the app. So this app is for viewing recipes. Only. I can launch a browser, go to the Cook’s site, log in w/my ID, and then do a search for what I want — but it is reasonable to expect to be able to access it through the app.
  • Lacks functionality

While I love having the recipes close at hand the search isn’t the greatest. If you don’t find the recipe you’re looking for and hit the back arrow you don’t always go back to your search and have to search all over again. I don’t think cataloguing your saved recipes is all that functional either. But my biggest complaint is that in some of the recipes it will refer to a diagram or picture “below” that is to follow the recipe and it’s nowhere to be found. There are some things I’d like to see and if you’re a visual person the recipe won’t be functional at all!!

  • “Follow the illustrations” that don’t exist!

Based on Cook’s ILLUSTRATED...would reasonably let you infer that there would be some, but nope, there aren’t. Seriously???
  • Illustrations Needed

Love this app but illustrations needed when recipe says “See illustrations below for information on...”. I end up going on ATK site to find more info. A little frustrating
  • Very disappointing

Been a long time subscriber and with all the technology available today this app fails BIG TIME! I can’t get equipment reviews or taste tests at all, I mean what am I paying for? Sure the recipes are there but I’m looking for more from this app. Last one was better! I use to be able to shop and look up taste test to find recommendations but no more :(
  • Missing many useful features

I was excited to see this app, as the old cooks illustrated app is no longer being supported. But it has some fundamental flaws and is missing many of the useful features from the old app. 1. No way to copy or send recipes to another app (such as Evernote, where I keep all my cooking-related information) 2. Terrible search function. I was looking for “green lentils“ and it came up with everything with the word “green” in it. No way to do separate searches for red lentils versus green lentils. 3. The “shopping list“ window comes up every time you start the app and it takes up half the screen. What a useless feature. Will post more when I have explored the app more.
