Messenger Kids App Description

With Messenger Kids... Parents Have More Control * Parents approve every contact, so kids can chat in a safer, more controlled environment. * Parents can remove any contact at any time * Parents can use sleep mode to set times when their child cannot use the app. * Messages don't disappear and can't be hidden in case parents would like to check in. * There are no ads or in-app purchases, and the app is free to download. Kids Have More Fun * Kid-appropriate stickers, GIFs, frames and emojis help kids creatively express themselves. * One-on-one or group video calls come to life with fun, interactive masks. * The feature-filled camera lets kids create videos and decorate photos to share with loved ones. Works with Messenger * Parents and parent-approved adults chat with kids through Messenger. * Works on all tablets and smartphones. * No phone number is needed - you only need Wi-Fi. Made Safer for Kids * Creating a Messenger Kids account for a child does not create a Facebook account for them. * Parents and guardians use their own Facebook accounts to create a Messenger Kids account for their child. * Kids have the option to report or block contacts and report inappropriate content. If a child submits a report, their parent or guardian will be notified. * We're always working to improve Messenger Kids. If you'd like to share any feedback with us or for more information, visit

Messenger Kids App Reviews

  • Only one problem

    By Mastermynd77
I need a way to log out of it on my phone without deleting it. I don’t want to get all of the notifications from this app before my child sees them. The few contacts she has are fine sending her messages without me peeping over her shoulders.
  • Annoying Overlay! Need "nicknames" for grandma

    By spywax
The latest update has an annoying "READY TO CHAT" overlay that makes it too easy to message the wrong person (this just happened to my daughter and there was no way to undo it, which I can and do appreciate for safety concerns) Also, some of the stickers are animated and show animation in the preview, yet once sent, neither party can see the animation. Please make the animations visible once sent to all parties. Thank you. Previous review: I think parents need to be able to manage the names of contacts on their end. So the child can contact Mommy, Daddy, Mimi, Grandma, Grandpa, Auntie Donna, Uncle Fred, etc... Love this app. Using it to practice typing sentences with my daughter. She loves to send me photos she takes too! I would like the ability to rename her contacts to the names she recognizes, such as Mommy, Grandma, Grandpa, etc. Thanks!
  • Great if you can’t do FaceTime but needs an option for picture updates for contacts

This app has served the purpose, so my children without an IPhone can communicate on tablets etc. with their other parent, family members and friends. However, the contacts picture shows the persons profile pic. This has caused an issue as that pic is always changing or not even a pic of themselves. The kids should have the option of putting their own pic for that person with the parents approval.

Good overall, I don’t care for the games in it though.

Good way to allow my son to keep in contact with family
  • Great option for lil ones

My son is learning to read and write so I let him have messenger so he can communicate with his friends. It encourages them in so many ways, reading, writing, grammar, punctuation, and socialization!

Nice and easy for my kid to stay in contact with friends and family
  • The only safe option for kids. Fun too!

Simply, all of the other chat apps such as Apple Messages, Google Hangouts, etc allow anyone to message your child. This opens your kids up to predators and online bullying. Messenger Kids lets the parents control the people your kids can chat with. It also has kid friendly AR filters which are a bit too entertaining as my kids end up playing with those more than video chatting with me.
  • ❤️

We love the app. My daughter can video chat with family that she can’t physically see right now. I wish the Messenger Kids had some of the benefits that the Messenger does like: Upload a Profile picture, change the color or emoji and Parent (administrator) can send GIFs amongst other things. My menu to send something to my daughter shows Voice.
  • I don’t like it 😡
