  • Sync is glitchy

Another reviewer mentioned this. More often than not, the mobile app does not report additions made to the desktop application. I tried to figure out why this was happening. It seemed that if I added a transaction while the desktop app was still updating the Cloud Sync, the new transaction wouldn’t be included in that update or any future updates. But after testing this theory, I was unable to replicate it with any accuracy. The only way I’ve been able to fix this issue is to edit the missing transaction on the desktop app (something simple like changing the date) and then re-syncing. Easy enough, but not something I should have to do. Also, I HATE that the mobile app almost always displays the Summary screen on launch. Since I have hidden a few accounts on the mobile app and the summary does not include hidden accounts, the summary is wildly inaccurate and useless to me. Developers: please add an option to choose the launch screen on the mobile app. EDIT: The new version (as of 18 Jun 2019) requires the data be migrated for compatibility. This was, by far, the most time-consuming and difficult migration I’ve ever had to do on my phone. The app won’t launch unless you allow the migration. Then it crashed and wouldn’t launch again until after I deleted the app from the home screen and reinstalled it. Then I had to remember the password, not only for IGG Services, but also for the Cloud document. (I ended up changing both. Ugh.) The release notes state the update adds cloud syncing stability, but getting the app back on track was a MASSIVE pain. Oh, it also ruined all my account layouts on the Summary screen and changed any hidden accounts to visible. Thanks for the extra work. I’ve removed a star rating due to the headaches caused by what should be a simple update. (You’re down to two stars, now.)

Latest version requires a file migration update. Tries and crashes on both my iPhone SE and iPad mini 4. Bad update

I picked up the Mac app after testing a number of alternatives and finally getting all of my financial data out of the cloud. On Mac, Banktivity is pretty great. A few direct connect issues, but nothing I can't deal with for having complete control over my data. The iOS app, on the other hand, is not the best. It's nice that I can see my basic banking info, but why can I not update my accounts through direct connect? Also, investment support is lacking. I can see current values, but no historical data? I'd gladly pay for a more full-featured app.
  • Great app and alternative to YNAB

I left YNAB once they went to the subscription model. Since I hate "renting" software I immediately starting looking for alternatives that also offered the envelope budgeting method that YNAB basically uses. This software is the best fit I could find and it functions very well. The desktop software has a lot of great reports and is easy to reconcile with my bank statements. I do however have a few requests on how the the iOS app can be improved to make it a 5 star app: 1) When entering an amount for a transaction I would rather not have to ender the "." For example: to enter an amount of $3.45 I have to type "3" "." "4" "5" instead of just "3" "4" "5". A minor annoyance but when I'm using the iOS app to enter 90% of my transactions the less taps the better. 2) I would like the category field to function just like the payee field - quick find? Where I can start typing the name of the category and it filters down the list of available categories vs. having to scroll through the whole list and find the one I want. 3) I find that if I sync or switch to the app to often I have to enter my sync password again. 4) Sometimes the iOS app doesn't always sync properly and I have different totals and transactions than the desktop version. I then need to resync the document file to re-align everything again. This has happened about 3 or 4 times in the last year or so. Other than that keep up the great work! Looking forward to future updates.
  • This does the job for the most part.

This version 3.5.9 is great for the most part. I only use this as a checking account register rather than doing actual banking. On a rare occasion the synchronization is glitchy so watch out for dropped entries. Seems like every couple of years they abandon older software versions and try to get you to shell out more money for the same “improved” thing.

Direct access does not work. Several requests for help have gone unanswered. Will switch as soon as I find something better.
  • Please make the app for iPad also

LOVE this app. It’s been a great tool for me and my household to keep track of our finances. The iPhone and Mac apps are fantastic but the app on the iPad is the iPhone version and it just doesn’t give you the same though. Other than that this app is awesome. Keep up the great work you are all doing.
  • Desktop app is dated

I downloaded and did the trial, but deleted after a couple of hours. Interface is pretty dated. For example, to change a category it took a double click just to open and then another click to the drop down. Just not very enjoyable to use, and behind several other programs in terms of just usability. Hopefully they’ll update someday and I’ll try again. I cannot speak to how syncing works, etc as I didn’t get that far.
