I'd like to be able to access my character sheets from the website amongst other personalised feature, that's really the main reason people want the app, it's doing great so far but I'd like to hope further development is under works
Are they digital books?
I don’t understand a lot, but I have a feeling these are digital books.
Dungeon Master Must-Have
I have been using this app since beta release (almost a year ago). I was brand new to TTRPGs and purchased the ultimate license (all the released books). I can honestly say that the developers have consistently improved upon this app since then. From mundane changes like being able to go from the exact typeset and look of the physical books to an easier to read on device look, from kinda lame looking artwork to a special image viewer integration, and finally to my fave upgrade: cross-referencing everything in any books you have purchased. Every entry in any book that is referenced in a different text is now hyperlinked. Example: I'm reading the Dungeon Master's Guide and it mentions Chapter 3 in the Player's Handbook. That is hyperlinked. Not having to cart around all the hardcovers as a DM was great enough...But these hyperlinks have solidified my allegiance. Since this feature was added a couple of months ago, I have run White Plume Mountain, a Tomb of Annihilation adventure, and various other adventures and it's made things so much faster. Are you running an adventure with a level 8 or higher caster? Forget cross referencing spell data the hard way. Now, when you search the monster's stat block, all listed spells are hyperlinked. With that new feature also came a WAYYYY better search feature than what the app started with. With specific tabs for searching monsters, spells, classes, races, equipment, magic items, and the ability to bookmark ANY of these pages, DM prep has gotten significantly easier and faster. And while it can crash from time to time and you can't see your character sheets or the character builder, what is available to you for offline use is so useful and ridiculously necessary for any DM, I see no reason to give this app less than a 4 star review.
Needs character sheet support
App would be more useful if it included character sheet support, instead of having to log into the website separately.
A nice start: app for official content purchases and reading w/ a few other facets like quick content access (spells, feats, etc). Runs stable, quite useful, but painfully missing expected features and functionality.
The main missing features are character sheets and encounter/campaign management. These are limited to the website alone. On a phone browser I find using them clunky and jarring for navigating via the hamburger like menu along w/ the site header menus always eating up screen real estate.
This is what mobile apps are for! To give an optimized experience to the user outside of a browser based system. Please, PLEASE add these two items to the mobile app.
Good, but recently became buggy again
This app is really useful (and I’m willing to overlook the absence of character sheets). However, recently it has become really buggy after a new update (don’t know if it’s only on iPad). It’s gotten slower, crashed more, and taken so much longer to load pages. It also has a bug where then using your finger to scroll through the page screen at the bottom it gets stuck and you have to scroll further with the circle in order to move past the original pages, plus an annoying bug that if you accidentally move your finger a little to the side, it jumps back to a random earlier place on the page. Both have been there since launch. Please fix these bugs, it makes it so annoying when using the app for long periods.
It won’t let me open or download any of the content in the app.
Still no character sheets?
Even if they can’t incorporate a good interactive character sheet like on the browser version, even just a plain view of the basic character sheet would be appreciated.
Lacking in content compared to website
Listen, I’d like to begin by saying that the website is AWESOME. Go there, not here.
The app is, quite frankly, poorly organized. The monster and race sections seem not to be organized at all until you filter it or select an organization method, and most important things (spells, races, monsters, etc.) are down in some submenu.
Next, there is no home brew option, which is really disappointing to me. I love home brewing, and the website does it incredibly well. The app, however, has no option to make or even view any home brew of any kind.
The final strike against this app is that there is no character sheet feature. This was also a huge part of the appeal to D&D Beyond, and it’s completely gone.
If these things were fixed, this app would be amazing. D&D Beyond’s website is so great, and that’s honestly what makes this so disappointing. I’d give it 1.5 stars if I could. :(
Good compendium but no character sheet
I like having the app but sadly it doesn’t have the character sheet functions that the website does so I have to bounce between the two or just use the website. Makes the app almost useless
