Sarasota Herald Tribune App App Reviews

  • Good app with some bugs

    By krishen
Good, because I can see the paper in the same layout as the actual paper.. bad, because, as one reviewer says above, it’s jumpy. It will lose your scroll position if you even just rotate the phone, which is especially maddening when you have to scrolling past a page break (which is also harder than it needs to be). Apart from these couple of things, I really like the app. So great to be able to fit the whole paper in my pocket :) and the ability to view back issues is nice as well. Just for the record I believe using the app requires a digital subscription to the paper (though I don’t remember getting prompted for my login credentials). - Update, Sep 18th 2018: Woohoo, looks like the page break issue mentioned above is fixed! Kudos. However, still having some navigation woes because it’s too easy to swipe sideways to a different story, when only attempting to scroll down in my current story. So still some work to do in the app.
  • Too frequent sign in requests +

    By SRQKraftiGal
It seems over the past few months I have to sign in again at least once a week & sometimes twice a week on my iPad. It also happens on my desktop computer, but not quite as often. This interruption often happens when I’m switching from one article to the next. Another problem that has been going on since the app started is that the words in a sentence run together (with no spaces between the words) which is annoying. But even worse is the fact that sometimes articles that start on Page 1 can’t be found to continue elsewhere. I have noted on many occasions that sometimes whole pages contain totally different content than the real paper. I have to wonder why, after all this time, these problems have not shown any improvement.
  • Jumpy!

Since the latest update, the iPhone app jumps several articles when ads are inserted into the article list. This forces you to scroll up and down to find your place again. Maddening. USA Today app had the problem too but fixed theirs. This one badly needs the same fix.

One of my favorite Apps! Looks and reads like the real thing!
  • Good app, now need subscription

    By Trini1000
Truth in apps, folks. This only works with a paid subscription trail period.
  • Can't use unless you subscribe to the paper

    By JohnE00
I can understand, but they don't warn you that although the app itself is free, you cannot use it unless you also pay for the printed subscription.
