Castro Podcast Player App Description

Castro is a beautiful, full-featured podcast player that makes it easy to track and manage lots of podcasts at the same time. Only listen to the episodes you want and easily skip the rest, queue up hours of podcasts at a time and enjoy a seamless listening experience with carplay compatibility, chapter support, trim silence and much, much more! HOW IT WORKS 1. New episodes land in the NEW tab. Read their descriptions, add episodes you like to your QUEUE, and clear the rest. 2. Press play to listen to episodes from your QUEUE in order. Queued episodes are downloaded automatically. 3. Re-order your QUEUE to plan your next few hours of listening at any time. Browse your LIBRARY to review the back catalogue, quickly access starred shows, and see your listening history. Subscribing to a podcast is no longer a commitment to listen to every episode. You don’t have to manage a huge list of subscriptions or choose a few shows and miss the rest. WHY OUR USERS LOVE CASTRO • Drag and drop podcasts to plan your listening with Castro’s unique queue • An elegant dark mode and thoughtfully designed sleep timer offer the best in night time podcast listening. • CarPlay support makes it easy to pick up where you left off while driving. • Apple Watch app to control playback and select another episode from your queue. • Episode notifications include a summary of the episode to help you decide if it interests you. Play, queue or clear the episode directly from the notification without opening the app. CASTRO PLUS Castro Plus is an optional paid subscription available for $18.99/year (includes a one-week trial). Plus unlocks a range of advanced features: • Trim Silence — With this option on, the app will analyze audio as it plays to detect silent parts and accelerate those parts. Get through more episodes faster. • Enhance Voices improves the listening experience for many podcasts and makes it easier to hear in loud environments. Under the hood, Enhance Voices applies a dynamic compressor to increase volume just where it’s needed. • Sideloading: Import audio files directly, just by dropping them in iCloud Drive • Mono-Mix — Mixes a stereo podcast to mono, which makes it easier to hear podcasts that pan some guests on left/right channels. • Chapter Support: Artwork, Skipping & Pre-selection. • Custom settings per-podcast: Episode Limit, Trim Silence, Enhance Voices, Mono Mix, Skip Intros, Playback Speed. Castro Podcast Player App Reviews

  • Very, very clever and useful

By far the best podcast app I’ve used.
  • Concerned About Copying

I have always went back and forth trying this and other podcast players. Even subscribing or purchasing those that had it. I’ve been using this app a lot lately even with it not having or doing some things other players do/offer. But numerous features have been copied from Overcast and I can’t help but think maybe it’s best to just keep Overcast since features from it are what’s being copied. I know being a older customer the newer more expensive prices don’t apply to me but with what I said above and Overcast costing half of what Castro is now charging for a subscription I hope Castro will be able to stay around. I don’t know if enough people will pay double the subscription rate over a podcast player that Castro copies/follows. Let alone the one time charge of the other good player, Pocket Casts. Time will tell. If you like listening to podcasts it’s worth trying. But unless some things change or are added I would recommend Pocket Casts (bonus of supporting video podcasts) or Overcast.
  • A bit glitchy.

I love Castro for the great workflow. It’s the best app I’ve found for managing podcasts. But lately Castro has gotten buggy. Whenever I plug or unplug headphones or the charging cord into my iPhone 7, a glitch comes up where to get a podcast to play again, I have to press Play/Pause/Play to get it going. Another big issue with Castro is the new clip feature. First off, I’ll never use it, so I wish it was hidden. But since the clip record button is sitting right there at the bottom of the screen, I’ve accidentally hit it now several times when pulling up the Control Center. That happened this morning, and I was unable to escape the clip interface without closing the app via the switcher. This is how Pocket Casts started down its disastrous road, adding “features“ that nobody asked for. Please hide the clip interface in the share menu, like Overcast does. I’ve switched over to Overcast until Castro comes out with an update that deals with that big record button that I don’t want to use.

Love the app and the support is excellent
  • Finally a powerful but simple podcast app

    By fifeleee
Tried many podcast apps and they were all complicated and confusing. This is so simple but powerful. New episodes all show up in a “new” page. You quickly get to place in que or delete. That’s all I need every morning to pick my days listening
  • Love it!

Awesome, user friendly interface. Really recommend it!
  • Make the switch!

Awesome app with a fresh take on the podcast player model! You can import your podcasts from your previous player and it subscribes automatically. Great layout for listening to your favorites and discovering new podcasts. Highly recommend!
  • Yearly subscription? Seriously?

    By swishsd
The move to subscription fees that many developers are pulling is terrible. Sell the app, and sell the premium upgrade as a one-time charge. $19 a year for features that Overcast gives you for free? Give me a break. Don’t get hoodwinked.
  • Great app; slightly glitchy

    By SuzieQuarks
This app is the best podcast app I’ve ever used, and I’ve tried a lot of (free) apps. It’s easy to start using, easy to add podcasts to the playlist, and keeps well enough up to date that I don’t have to worry I’m going to miss an episode of a favorite. It is only a little glitchy when first getting the current episode to play after the app has already been opened. I usually just have to hit play/pause more than once. And for all the features I love, that’s a glitch I can live with.
  • Beautiful Design

Love this app. The free version fits my needs but I’m not against upgrading to paid at some point because, again, I love this app. Thoughtful design, easy to use, quick to update.
