Day One Journal App Reviews

  • I regret using this

    By Seminary Teacher-mom
I loved everything about this app- until I got a new phone. I cannot put the journal I was keeping on my new phone without paying for the app. I thought I would print it (what a great feature, right?) but it only prints one entry per day. I have a picture and about 4 sentences every day for almost a year. It told me it would be 290+ pages. Seriously?? I now have no journal- virtual or printed. Super disappointed.
  • Costs to sync

    By MH101418
I’d rather stick with the old version because they even charge you to sync now.
  • So not pay for premium until there is a working web app

    By Jake Flavin
The iPhone and Mac app is great! But I find it difficult to use this service since there is no working web application. The premium version is definitely not worth the money. The perimium features also nickel and dime you. You have to pay for premium to use the dark mode!
  • Game changer

    By Alib2445
This app is absolutely incredible for those of us who crave simplicity. I could not have imagined a more effective & stress free way of journaling. I love seeing my entries from one year ago, because it shows how much I’ve changed and grown since then, and puts temporary issues into perspective. I just wish this app was encrypted and more secure. I would pay for that.
  • Book printing doesn’t work

    By Peggy Hankins
I had high hopes for this app to chronicle my travels. It looks nice and if you don’t want to print anything out it’s probably a great app. However I want a printed book and the preview feature will not load past 50% for me. I have worked with their support and their latest answer is that it is in beta version which I guess means I’m SOL
  • By far the best, nothing comes close!

    By BMoreGoHard
This is by far the best journal app out, but I’ll say one of the best apps period. Always updating with new features, and if I have a problem (which are few) they get right back to me to resolve it. The subscription is worth every penny in my opinion. Day one is the main reason I journal in the first place. Highly recommend!
  • Newest version needs even more work.

    By aacarbob
I have been a raving fan of Day One for almost 6 years now. This latest update I was hoping was going to fix some of the problems that the last major update caused, but it has been the most troublesome ever. The program has become glitchy, hard to make entries because of the way that text bounces around if you’ve loaded pictures first, and with a voice to text entry the text overlaps lines, and doesn’t underlined any potential errors like all other voice to text program seem to do. They also did away with the map that showed where you were on each day in the “on this day” feature, which was really interesting. This used to be such an easy to use app, I’m really disappointed with the changes. But I’ve made an entry every day for getting close to six years now, and I plan on continuing to use it. I look almost every day for a new upgrade, hoping that they will be fixing some of these problems soon newest update did not.
  • Handwriting

    By FrankLuciano
I’d love to be able to hand write entries. That’s the one thing missing
  • Apple Pencil Functionality

    By reviewer zt
I don't understand how a “journaling” app has no Apple Pencil functionality.
  • Update = downgrade

    By Viiv
FREEZING: The app was running pretty smoothly until the update. Now, if I leave the application and come back, it’s frozen and I have to close it and reopen it SHARING: Now, instead of easily sharing an entry directly from the list of entries, we are forced to go into the entry, then edit the entry, then open a drop-down at the bottom of the entry, then scroll to the very bottom of that, and then finally share it. Definitely not an improvement.
