Now, disregarding the major cash grab in this game or the difficulty curve that takes luck and/or event Pokémon giveaways to progress past, the fact that DS players get more free jewels and spend 1000 less coins per great ball, I still play on mobile simply because of the convinence. And I know they’ve rationalized it by calling it hard mode, (which, no.) But what really strikes me the wrong way is the catch rates being hidden. Anytime you have a 10% or less catch rate of getting a Pokémon, the number is replaces with an ‘?’ instead of the percentage. Now, keep in mind when you use a great ball, the percent doubles so you can normally figure out where it landed anyway, but it’s almost like they want players to use great balls on Pokémon that may still have a ‘?’, when they’re new. It’s like saying “we don’t want you to know not to waste your coins”. It’s not a feature on DS and it feels condescending and shameful honestly.... I really hope they patch it out soon, but it’s been in since the beginning so I’m not sure it’ll go anywhere. Overall though, it is a very fun game that holds up to the “catch ‘em all” theme of the games in a whole new way.

I installed this game a few days ago and really enjoyed the art style and the fact that you can move a piece all across the board (unlike a lot of other puzzle games). I received a notification that I had unlocked the chance to battle Articuno, one of my favorite Pokémon of all time. So I went in and spent all of my coins on the power ups. I came very close to ending the fight and the game prompted me to spend some gems for additional time. I figured I was very close to finishing and had received some for free, so no harm in that. Unfortunately, as soon as I spent the gems to extend the timer, the fight transitioned to a phase where all but two columns are frozen. As you can imagine, this slowed my damage to a complete halt despite my years of experience with puzzle games such as these and I had to continue pumping gems into the fight in order to even finish it in hopes of getting some xp. After spending $4 on gems I finally beat it and had the opportunity to catch Articuno. Needless to say, the game continually prompted me to spend my remaining gems and coins on great balls, and after 4 great balls, the Articuno just fled. No consolation prize and the xp given was less than I’d received in my most recent story mode battle. With next to no coins or gems left I am now uninstalling the game for this predatory and unfun experience. I hope this wall of text helps at least one person realize that this is not the wholesome, appealing Pokémon game it appears as - just another predatory mobile game. Tl;dr - Pokémon Shuffle asks for your money, gives you nothing in return, and laughs at you.
  • Catch Percentages are Off

I get making the most powerful, legendary pokemon hard to catch but when I am beating something like an Oddish 10 times with an S ranking I believe I should have it. After the first 10 stages all the pokemon have less than 20% capture rates even with the leftover move bonus. Also when it says 20% chance and after 15 attempts I still haven’t caught it, I begin to question if the displayed percent chance is accurate. Clearly another game that forces you to pay to win. Such a shame.

I’ve been playing this game off and on for a few years now, and every time I come back to it, I remember why I quit playing almost immediately. Game play is super fun and addicting, and although the devs remind you upfront you can play this game without spending money, you basically have to spend money if you want to binge play this game. Unless you’re okay with playing 5 rounds every 2.5 hours, then you’re only real bet is to spend some cash. I think it’s kind of ridiculous that they don’t have the same formula for lives as every other matching game that if you complete the level successfully, you don’t lose a life, but whatever. I’ll probably quit playing again after another day or so and delete it for a few months like usual. 🤣🙄

Wish you could get more hearts and gems than they give you. You have to wait a long time between games
